HIGHLIGHTS| Day Five 17.09.13
As the final day of Fashion Scout draws to a close, we can only reflect on the plethora of creative talent showcased across the board in all disciplines.
Today saw Ong-Oaj Pairam, Lulu Liu and FAD - the outreach project organised by London Fashion Week charity, which showcases the work of 20 young talented designers, aged 16-19 years - under the spotlight on the catwalk at Freemasons Hall.
Whilst Ong demonstrated an accomplished debut collection inspired by Gerti, a character from Stephen Spielberg's I.T; Lulu Liu showcased her 'YarrowWandow' collection, designed whilst she was in an 'idilic state of mind' during the pregnancy of her new baby Joshua. Closing day five we saw the dynamic collections of the FAD designers - a truly inspirational range of talent, from designers of such a young age, from a diverse range of backgrounds. The teams backstage at Tony&Guy and The Body Shop were working as hard as ever to create the perfect looks to complement each of these varied collections.
Our other sponsors were still going strong with Vita Coco and Poppercorn keeping the Fashion Scout staff, the models, the designers, the interns and the blog team both fed and hydrated. Aside from this Nude Audio were keeping the mood mellow with their speakers across the building and Propress made sure the clothes on the catwalk were at their full potential.
It is safe to say that Fashion Scout SS14 has undeniably been nothing but a success.

COLLECTION| FAD SS14
We proudly presented Fashion Awareness Direct (FAD)'s Junior Fashion Awards and show as the final show of Fashion Scout SS14. Partnered with George, the initiative which gives 16-19 years old the support, guidance and opportunities to develop their creative design talents. The panel were blown away by the standard this season and particularly praised the interpretation of the 'London Fashion Capital of the World' brief.
Olivia Till presented the first look on the
catwalk. Exaggerated shoulders and a clash of primary colours were off-setted by
a sponge printed asymmetric skirt in muted hues.
Molly Camara showcased a street luxe inspired grey
tracksuit with a twist - jogging bottoms and a cape style top with printed
panels in orange green and red hues.
Tihara Smith took inspiration from
the inner-city borough Notting Hill, her crisp white dress had a flared skirt
with a dark hexagonal design. Teamed with dark tights, the outfit was fresh,
clean and contemporary. Grey wedges completed the look.
Rochelle Nicholas Bastien designed a colour pop
edged printed capelet dress, the rainbow dripped down her look in a linear
formation.
Gloria
Iyare created a vibrant interpretation of her London surroundings. The eighteen
year old LeSoCo, Lewisham student created a sunny yellow
fringed jacket that created shape and brought life to the catwalk.
Anas Lachgar presented a menswear look featuring panels in
earth tones ,contrasting with the navy palette in this sportswear look which
included a hooded sweater and trousers.
Melissa Absalud Abdalla's Camden Lock inspired
design, a black parka style shirt dress was completed with neon pink zips and a
drawstring waist. A tiger motif on the back resonated of the street art found
on the streets of Camden.
Sarah Simpson's design was
innovative and hip - a hot panted body suit, with slouchy oversized denim on
top and a Peter Pan inspired collar.
Prendergast Hillyfields College student Nell Downes took
inspiration from Brick Lane and created a beaituful contrasting purple dress.
Worn by model Jutta, the dress had a contrasting collar and diamond pattern on
the lower half. Nell’s creation even earned her the Research and Interpretation
Award- congratulations Nell!
Zahra Khatouli went with perfectly formed fringed outwear for her look.
Classic tailoring was updated with unusual embellishment.
Fellow LeSoCo student, Nhung Le Thi Hong,
is just sixteen years old and made quite the impression with the judge panel.
Winning the illustration award- her concise, mature and talented drawings
impressed at Freemasons’ Hall. Exaggerated silhouettes and an aspect of natural
greenery were translated from the illustrations into her collection.
It was Yosana de Ceita Rodrigues Leal’s hand painted
techniques that wowed the judges who awarded her with the pattern cutting
award, for her intricate use of panelling in an inspired gown.
Designer Rebecca George
showcased a refined execution of her modern take on a retro inspired 60s A-line
dress, with the juxtaposition of a hanging chain below, giving it a punk edge.
Migena
Kola's bold military inspired look was given feminine touches with embellished
epaulettes and sequined racing stripes trousers.
Naiomi, who picked up the Design
Innovation Award, showcased a black ruched evening dress with exaggerated,
angular shoulders, mesh inserts and a red underlayer.
Hannah Tasane had
Carnaby Street in mind when designing her outfit, as worn by model Caroline.
The outfit consisted of a smart grey dress, accessorised with a skinny orange
belt and topped off with a quirky patchwork jacket. Smart black heels finished
off the look.
Jayden Yankey's onyx jumpsuit was the epitome of sophistication; mix media detailing and perfect cutting.
Claudia Teixeira Ferreia integrated a graphic alphabet print to her
monochrome mini dress. Fullness and a dipped hem completed the cinched feminine
silhouette.
A monochrome jumpsuit highlighted with metallic accents from
young designer Lily Southin gave a look that was both highly feminine yet
subtly androgynous.
Last but certainly not least, Beau Scarlett Pitt ended the FAD show and Fashion Scout’s SS14 season with a
show stopping design. Beau demonstrated a mature approach to the theme by
offering a sophisticated multi-layered creation, with an opulent choice of
fabrics, skilfully crafted together to form a dramatic finish.

Beau Scarlett Pitt was announced the winner, overwhelmed by the moment she thanked FAD for the the opportunities they give young people, "you're amazing!"
FAD and George closed the show by announcing that they are launching a mentoring scheme, more details to follow shortly.

BACKSTAGE| FAD SS14
Today, 20 young talents, aged 16-19 years old will showcase
their designs at London Fashion Week as part of an outreach project organised
by London Fashion Week charity FAD. The charity create industry opportunities
for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. The Fashion Scout team caught
up with the hair and make-up teams backstage to see what looks they were
creating for the showcase…
At Toni&Guy, models’ hair was blowdried to create a
smooth canvas and label.m Dry Shampoo was sprayed into the roots layer by layer
to give root lift and texture. hen hair was plaited into a chunky 3D plait
until half way down the head and sprayed with label.m Hairspray. The style was
covered with a net and hairspray was layered over the net until the plait was
rigid enough to lie straight on the head.
Label.m Resurrection Style Dust was sprinkled onto the crown to give
dynamic lift and volume.
First of all, brows were brushed with the clear Brow &
Lash gel to define the eyebrows and hold them in place.
Eyes were gently patted with concealer to mask any veins or
redness, ensuring a smooth and even base for the rest of the eye make-up. The
lower rims were lined with a white pencil to brighten up the eyes and make them
pop. Eyelashes were kept natural with Brow & Lash gel to enchance them.
Next, BB Cream was blended with the Radiance Highlighter and
applied with a foundation brush for a natural and dewy finish. Then, Concealer
All-in-One was used on the under-eye area to cover any dark shadows and other
imperfections on the face. Powder blusher was lightly swept on for a gorgeous
pink glow and Colour Crush Lipstick in Rush of Pink was blended on top to give
more depth.
For the lips, Vitamin E Lip Balm was dabbed on to moisturise
the lips and provide a smooth base for a coat of Colour Crush Lipstick in
colour Sweetheart 210. Pink lipgloss was smudged on top for extra-colour and
sheer shine.
Lastly, the model’s face was spritzed with Vitamin E Face
Mist to set the make-up and add to the dewy, freshness of the complexion.
