COLLECTION| Timur Kim S/S 13

Central Saint Martins MA graduate, Timur Kim impressed upon graduating with his eclectic mix of fabrics, and textures from denim to velvet. The collection took the simple starting point of a denim shirt and turned it into something elegant and very feminine; it's clear that this is to be Kim's signature style, as his Spring/ Summer '13 collection has a similar starting point.

A low repetitive beat begins to fill the room, starting with one strum and then growing faster and louder, building the anticipation. The lights go out, and you're plunged into a Kim's world of long, flowing dresses in beautiful spring tones, and it feels as though summer is beginning again.
Starting with a material as stark, and hard-wearing as denim to fluid silks that still hold the influence of denim is just amazing. Knee length 1950's inspired dress silhouettes with delicate prints that celebrated a combination of lace, paisley and a more regal feel giving a nod to previous decades. The pattern cutting was refined, with long dresses tight to the hips and then billowing out to the floor, to which the fabrics lent themselves perfectly.

The simplistic hair and make-up added to the soft, feminine feel of the show. Two-tone silk shirts with patterned tailored trousers- or the odd pair of retro vintage look jeans- reminded the audience of the starting point of Kim's design philosophy. His progression, and direction since his graduate collection is clear; the fabric is the starting point, that leads the designs, inspires the silhouettes- which are enhanced by the fabric's natural movement.
