COLLECTION | Dora Abodi

Where to start with the exquisite Dora Abodi AW15 collection?

A mystical battle of the next instalment of ‘Cult of the Twin Unisus’ sees Abodi present extra-terrestrial creatures clad in explosive crystal prints, deconstructed metallic fabric with sheer billowing trains, flowing down runway alongside a life sized Pegasus.
Taking inspiration from science fiction, klubkid grunge and dark goth, metallic components of robots encapsulate an insight in to the fragile borders between innocence and sin, light and dark.

Holographic moon clutches compliment the dark dazzling, glitter eye makeup and feathery, disordered, plaited hair with pleather knee high boots elongating the enchantresses towering physiques.

Being ethically conscious to not use real fur or any materials from uncontrolled origin we saw faux fur pastel coats and deep navy feathered garments. Embellished unicorn sweaters and distinctive digital prints continue the theme of a fearless, majestic; female in timeless harmony with a mix of block colours contrasting with black Adobi perfectly executed her unearthly vision.

INTERVIEW | Dora Abodi x Body Shop

We went backstage to see the behind the scenes make up looks for the Dora Abodi show. Head make up artist for Body Shop Lan talked us through the looks chosen for the show.

Hi Lang, what was the inspiration behind this look for the Dora Abodi show?

We were originally inspired by the horns created with the models hair which made us immediately think of fantasy but with a hint of Goth So the overall look I would say is fantasy Goth but with metallic eyes, we wanted to make it quite dark by using white porcelain skin but making the eyes black and glossy. With the lips we wanted to go with a natural shade which then makes the concept seem more realistic.

What are the main products that you are using?

We are using a black Body Shop eye shadow along with metallic Sugar Cubes to make it glimmer a little bit. When we started with the base we mixed foundation with the Illuminating Vitamin E Cream as this makes the skin more translucent so it’s not a heavy foundation and makes the skin look more porcelain and shiny. We are using gloss on the eyes in the key areas, these being the inner and outer eye corners, this brings out the element of the black and makes it look quite greasy. I would call this an irregular smoky eye as it is square and looks different on every model.

What is your favourite part of the look?

We have got lip piercings and diamonds on the models face which makes the eyes look really juicy, dirty, grubby but still beautiful at the same time.

NEWS | Dora Abodi finds A-List Fans!

Fashion Scout designer Dora Abodi is celebrating not just one, but two huge celebrity endorsements to end 2014. The first saw mega-star singer & actress (and current Wonderland cover model) Taylor Swift donning the Twin Unisus silk T-shirt during an appearance on the equally legendary Ellen Degeneres show back in October to promote her worldwide Number 1 album “1989.” Swift wore the t-shirt whilst performing new single “Out of The Woods,” with the performance breaking five hundred thousand views on Youtube in just over a month.

Abodi built on this exposure with a second A-lister, this time R&B superstar Christina Milian, who wore a Lamborghini inspired top from the designer whilst speaking to E! Entertainment just this week.

With this support we're sure that 2015 looks promising for the Fashion Scout designer, and we're excited to see her show as part of Fashion Week at The Freemasons Hall, Covent Garden, February 20th - 24th.

What to see more? Check out Swift's performance on Ellen, here.

COLLECTION| Dora Abodi SS15

Transylvania born designer Dora Abodi, now based in Milan with numerous accolades, presented her debut collection at Fashion Scout today.

She is famed for her baroque futurism signature, presenting robotic tendencies across her SS15 collection. Abodi’s roots are revealed with the dark and super heroine style that runs throughout her previous collection.

This season she continued with her signature futuristic pattern prints, inspired by past and future classical art and religious rituals with high technology. The collection sees a mix of metallic, royal blue, rose gold, champagne silver and mesh black and white. Different fabrics used across the collection included print silks, leather, pearls and cabochons, silk organza, metallic gold lame, jacquard and embroidery.

On the first half of the show, mesh black top and knee length skirt with a blazer appeared within the prints which were rich, vivid and organic. As the show progressed, the collection introduced feminine concepts.

Evening gown, pencil skirt and white embodied floral collars all blended into the collection. A dark romantic vibe with heavily smoked eye make-up and black wigs featured. Towards the end of the show, Abodi surprised the audience with horns and white graffiti on the model's shoulders and faces.

Abodi’s aesthetic is exaggerated and hyperbolic and she has succeeded in producing an interesting statement pieces for the fashion-forward woman.

DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT SS15| Dora Abodi

Graduating with a BA from the French Mod’art International Art and Fashion Academy in 2009 and finishing her Masters in Fashion design in Domus Academy (Milan) in 2013, Dora Abodi clearly knows how to create waves in the industry. She's already won numerous awards, including the Hungarian Fashion Awards Designer of the Year in 2010, Design am Rhein first prize by Düsseldorf Fashion Academy and Igedo in 2010, Glamour Magazine Women of the Year Best Designer in 2012, Domus Academy-Vogue Talents Special Awards in 2012 and the Future of Fashion program in 2014.

The young designer from Transylvania, now based in Milan, presented a futuristic collection with robotic tendencies across her AW14 show. The collection, which Abodi has described as starting from the idea of a female super hero character ANA, explores the silhouettes and digital prints where they refer to the geometry and typical shapes of robots with super heroine style. Using different fabrics and materials for this collection such as the Swarovski crystal fabrics and technical materials that are specially developed with metal hardwares, classic luxury materials like fine silk, jacquards, lambskin leather were mixed to create a fine finish.

Abodi has quickly built her reputation with her signature vision in a future-forward baroque style. With celebrities like Lady Gaga choosing her pieces, there's no doubt that her collections are a top choice.

Abodi’s aesthetic is exaggerated, adventurous and contemporary. She has succeeded in producing an interesting yet thought-provoking collection of statement pieces for the fashion-forward woman and we look forward to seeing what she produces for her SS15 catwalk show on Saturday 13th September.
