INTERVIEW | Body Shop's Lan Nguyen Grealis

Following the anticipated showing of Merit Award winner James Kelly's AW15 collection, we caught up with Fashion-Scout's chief make-up artist Lan Nguyen Grealis backstage to get the lowdown on the looks she created to accompany the collection. 

What inspired your look for the James Kelly show?

The inspiration was 'lived-in', we were thinking about a girl that's been out all night. She's a bit worn out but she still looks amazing, so quite sweaty, dewy skin with a smudged, dark berry lip that's still natural-a kind of girl next door with a bit of a dark side. 

What products did you use to bring the concept to life?

To get the dewy look we used the Aloe Skin Soother and lightly misted with the Vitamin E Face Mist Spray. For the glossy lids we used wet make-up brushes and lightly packed on Colour Crush shadow in Chocolate Linger, followed by a slick of clear mint gloss, and smudged the lips with Crazy Sexy Crimson.

How do you get yourself ready for Fashion Week?

Being the chief make-up artist for Fashion Scout I have to work ahead and anticipate the trends. So looking at what's happening at couture shows and what people are wearing. It's hectic coming into Fashion Week because sometimes designers are so busy creating the collection that they don't have time to come up with looks so I have to anticipate their needs.

What are some of the staple products you'll be using throughout the week?

I'm definitely loving the Aloe Vera Skin soother to revive tired skin and the dark browny-red lipstick Crazy Sexy Crimson.

Eugene Lin kicked off Day Four of Fashion Scout at London Fashion Week, and The Body Shop have created the ultimate dark brow for the catwalk. 

We snuck backstage and got some exclusive images from The Body Shop team. A thick brow and an extended upwards sweeping line filled into the brow with a graduating colour, the eyes are highlighted with gold glitter adding a hint of classic glamour to the look.

The One's To Watch Showcase saw three emerging new names in the industry- Patrick Li, Yeashin and Yulia Kondranina take to the catwalk, and with them a new make-up trend emerged at London Fashion Week.  

The Body Shop backstage team focused on the eyes- creating a subtle yet noticable look that drew attention the features without taking attention away from the collection. A soft brown eye palette made the created a chic yet modern look, with a matte finish foundation and slight flush on the cheeks that allowed the eyes to stand out. The One's To Watch Showcase saw three emerging new names in the industry- Patrick Li, Yeashin and Yulia Kondranina take to the catwalk, and with them a new make-up trend emerged at London Fashion Week. 

Another big thing to watch out for this season- eyebrows! They are the key to framing the eyes and proportioning the features and The Body Shop teams worked with our One's To Watch designers to create a look that perfectly framed the subtlety of the eyes. Focusing again on a dark brown palette, the brows were the stand-out feature of this look and brought an air of confidence to the overall aesthetic.

The Body Shop team have been putting their skills into practice at The Freemason's Hall for London Fashion Week shows. Fashion Scout has been closely following the make-up artists backstage as they transform the models.

From all of Fashion Scout's backstage footage so far, there are few trend predictions that we anticipate.

Firstly, for the face, there's a big emphasis on skin that looks natural and clear as seen at our opening show Apu Jan. The Body Shop make-up artists are using matte oil foundation to produce a flawless finish and a slight contour on the cheeks, which delivers simple yet stunning looking skin. So far we have seen the team using matte foundation to achieve a flawless finish.

There is a huge focus on the eyes, seen on the catwalk by Rohmir. Designers want a dramatic eye, whether that's a smokey eye or a pop of colour, the eyes need to capture the attention!
