INTERVIEW| Krystof Strozyna on his Feb'13 Collection

 

Having just displayed his minimal and feminine AW13 collection, we talked to Krystof Strozyna on his inspirations, favourite piece and showcasing with Fashion Scout.

So what inspired the new collection?

It was the sea. The colours of the sea, blues, greens as well as the texture of the sand that you could see in the prints. You could see it's all about textures this time, prints and the silhouette.

You like to play with contrasts. Is that something you've looked at again?

Yes. I've played with contrasts this time and I think it's a nice connection between print and colour and fabric.

What was your favourite piece of the collection and why?

It was the green coat with the necklace and the black pants. I would love to see a girl in it.

What's it been like showcasing with Fashion Scout?

It's been amazing. I think it's really an amazing place for young designers to show and I'm privileged to be able to show here.

COLLECTION| Krystof Strozyna FEB'13

Krystof Strozyna has been featured in prestigious publications from Vogue to Dazed and Confused since graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2007 and his AW'13 collection took us on an underwater journey in block palette of teal, grey, black and burgundy. Inspired by John William Waterhouse's 'The Siren',  yet instead of using flowing forms and sheer fabrics that are traditionally associated with the aquatic, Krystof took a less frivolous approach. The collection of dresses and separates featured structured yet feminine silhouettes that retained the Polish designer's reputation as the 'ultimate in power dressing'. 

The overall aesthetic was minimalist, with carefully considered details such as exposed zips and Krystof's trademark prints - which this season took the form of abstract realisations of aquatic life; from sand to shipwrecks. Silk pieces such as fitted maxi dresses and split sleeve shirts mimicked the ripple of waves as they made their way across the catwalk whilst the nipped in waists and structured shoulders celebrated the female form in flattering closer fits. Giving the overall effect of the contemporary siren.

BACKSTAGE| Krystof Strozyna FEB'13

Ahead of the Krystof Strozyna A/W'13 show, Fashion Scout headed backstage and caught up with the Body Shop's head make-up artist Claire de Graff to talk about make-up look. "The look for this show is very feminine, glossy and graphical it's very simple".

As for hair, Toni & Guy's Tim Furssedonn explained that they "reinvented the wheel", with a simple textured ponytail. The look was achieved by dividing the hair into two parts, crimping the middle section to raise the hair; thereby contributing to the youthful feeling of the look as a whole.
