NEWS| Yeashin Kim, Selfridges Bright Young Things finalist

Fashion Scout designer and last season's Ones To Watch star Yeashin Kim is one of fifteen Selfridges Bright Young Things finalists for 2013. BYT is an annual initiative which sees Selfridges showcase fifteen 'ones to watch' in the realms of food, fashion, art and design. 

This year's Bright Young Things was launched on 31st August, where Yeashin's designs were unveiled in one of the fifteen Selfridges window displays designated to BYT. In addition, you can shop Yeashin's collection online through their Concept Store. 

Blogger extraordinaire Susie Bubble will be posting a detailed run down of all BYT finalists on her blog but included Yeashin's designs in an exclusive preview post, where she compliments "LCF graduate Yeashin's fusion of 60s swinging London and traditional Korean costume".

EXHIBITION| Yeashin 'FEB13

This season has seen Yeashin’s AW13 Collection showcased on both the Fashion Scout Ones to Watch catwalk and in the exhibition space in our Freemasons Hall. South Korean born and raised, Yeashin Kim launched her brand ‘Yeashin’ in 2011, for which her inspiration derives from a variety of English 1960’s outfits amalgamated with traditional Korean outfits.

The Korean influence is prominent throughout her designs, with the influence of Mongolian and Tibetan mountain attire also present. Her focus heavily centers around detail which is showcased through her use of materials and the functions of her designs; for instance, the use of pearl embellishments, embroidery, gold thread appliqué and tassels. Contrasting texture also plays a key role in her concept, with an eclectic mix of velvet, wool, silk, sheepskin and fur used to convey her aesthetic.

The ornate avant-garde collection exudes wit and charm and is most regal in its presentation, overall a most accomplished collection.

COLLECTION| Ones-To-Watch: Yeashin FEB'13

First up in the talented “Ones-To-Watch” line-up was South-Korean designer Yeashin Kim, whose collection is presented in the wake of a number of impressive accolades, including “Most Creative Student” at the WGSN Global Fashion Awards.

Continuing with her inspiration from previous collections, Yeashin’s juxtaposed amalgamation of traditional Korean-dress and 1960s England came to life with an explosive myriad of colour and texture.  Experimenting with different fabric weights, each piece exhibited a range of dimensions; almost creating a new garment with every slight change in angle.  By combining the charisma that was brought to the pieces by the textural and colour variations, with a maturity of cut and attention to detail, Yeashin’s collection was both accessible and sophisticated. 

The partnering accessories worked to enhance this aesthetic; hats that were traditional  in structure and inspiration, were modernised with exaggerated proportions and vivid colours. 

Yeashin’s collection transported the captivated spectators to a place of vibrant positivity; combining this with her evident appreciation of traditional techniques, makes Yeashin undeniably “One-To-Watch”.

BACKSTAGE| Ones to Watch FEB'13

With Fashion Scout's Ones to Watch winners Patrick Li, Yeashin and Yulia Kondranina showcasing their three new collections at 12:30 today, backstage was well and truly a hive of activity.

“It's going great,” said Rebekah Roy, the show's stylist. “It's a first show for them so I think they're a little nervous but the clothes are extraordinary. It'll be a really great show this season.” She continued to explain how she finds “everyone really helpful, really professional and each year I find we up the ante. It becomes stronger and stronger.”

“It's more dynamic this season and there are more interchangeable pieces,” One to Watch winner Patrick Li said about his AW13 collection. On her new collection, Yeashin stated how “I want it to look very cute but luxurious. This season the inspiration was Korean traditional wood furniture and David Hockney paintings.”

When it comes to hair and make-up due to the creativity of all three creations, both take a relatively simple approach so as not to take anything away from the garments themselves. “The hair is glossy, shiny and tight in a very low ponytail,” explained Toni & Guy's head of hair, Silje Vincent. “Because the designers are so different, we have to keep it simple.”

Only a matter of hours away now, the Ones to Watch show is set to be an exciting one.
