Fashion Scout: Day 1 Highlights SS16

Yesterday we saw only the beginning of a wealth of talent being exhibited at Fashion Scout this London Fashion Week.

Highlights included Angel Chen’s dramatic 60s rebellion and Robert | Woods collection of astonishing fabric architecture and unique texture.

 At 18:30, Fashion Scout’s Ones To Watch show took place in The Gallery,  these four designers (JS Shin, Anita Hirlekar, Leaf Xia and Typical Freaks) exemplify the best in forward-thinking fashion and emerging talent.

Friday closed with the devilishly exciting collection from Pam Hogg, the room was packed, the looks were extreme, daring and really quite beautiful. The show? Electrifying.

Backstage at Fashion Scout: Day One

Exploring the upcoming hair and makeup trends for SS16, Fashion Scout headed backstage to the first shows of the day, Jamie Wei Huang, Angel Chen and Gyo Yuni Kimchoe. With a plethora of emerging beauty trends, beauty sponsors The Body Shop and Toni&Guy created innovative looks to compliment each of the designers' collections.

Jamie Wei Huang and Angel Chen showcased the standout hair trend for SS16, braids. Angel Chen's look kept hair back of the face and textured using label.m Sea Salt Spray, with models wearing intricate braids individually styled to flatter their faces natural contour. Strands of hair were undone to reflect the rebelliousness of the younger generation in the late 1960's USA. Continuing the braided trend, Jamie Wei Huang used two intertwined fishtail plaits created with messy textures for a natural look.

Gyo Yuni Kimchoe created a similarly natural tousled look with a rockabilly inspired twist using label.m Volume Mouse to construct a square quiff. The volumised front of the style lead into a sleek ponytail, emphasisng that updos are in for SS16.

Makeup looks appeared to showcase all or nothing, with Gyo Yuni Kimchoe and Angel Chen displaying bold, rebellious models opposing Jamie Wei Huang's raw, natural look.

Gyo Yuni Kimchoe used The Body Shop Honey Bronze to create a sunkissed base with the Shimmer Block in bronze highlighting the models' features. Eyebrows were filled in with dark mascara with contrasting red and green eyeshadow above the brow line to hint to Native American connotations. Angel Chen also displayed strong brows using transferrable barbed wire tattoos to create a defiant look. Over a matte bronze base, models were adorned with personal transferable tattoos and faux facial piercings, rejecting conformity.

Exhibiting a raw, youthful look, Jamie Wei Huang showcased the SS16 bare faced trend, with sunkissed models adorned with a base of The Body Shop Moisture it and Colour Crush eyeshadow in coconut. The model's flushed appearance was accentuated with a touch of blush to their cheeks.

With contrasting makeup trends and an exciting insight into SS16's updos, Fashion Scout can't wait to see what the talented teams at The Body Shop and label.m Toni&Guy create over the coming days.

EXHIBITION | Angel Chen Interview

Angel Chen is a young designer that graduated from CSM recently. Her young spirit shines through even in her designs. I caught up with her to see what she had to say about her collection on display.

Hi Angel, could you pleas tell me more about the collection you have on exhibition here.

It all started with her graduation collection at CSM where the narrative of the collection was that two girls went to Africa and when they met in Africa they fell in love and got married. These girls are time travellers and I mirrored this by using many different materials in my design, such as fishing line, metal, wool and cotton.

My friends and my surroundings inspire me, many of the models that have walked in my shows are my own friends and I have personally asked them to walk for me because I feel that they bring the character to life.

This collection is the new-born child of the girls who got married in Africa. Therefor I chose to have playful energetic, child like drawings as the print for the fabrics. To continue on the same narrative I chose nylon as my fabric because its strong, water prof and the coloured prints stand out.

How has you experience with Fashion Scout been?

It’s my first time with Fashion Scout and I have had a great time. The support has been amazing and I have enjoyed the other designers’ work as well.

The Fashion Scout London Exhibition Returns

This February, from the 20th - 23rd, Fashion Scout's London Exhibition returns with a facelift. Back by popular demand, this season sees Fashion Scout's most exciting ever line up, with a selection of the brightest new UK and International talent on display in the Freemasons' Hall, Covent Garden. 

Open to all Fashion Industry, Press and Buyers the Fashion Scout Exhibition is the best place to see a curated selection of the best new designers to watch's work up close and meet the designers themselves.

This season the Fashion Scout London exhibition will display the new season collections of 9 Industry selected designers including the Merit Award Winner James Kelly and the Ones to Watch winners. The full list of designers are:

AW15 PROVISIONAL CATWALK SCHEDULE REVEALED!

It’s time to get ready for the most exciting Fashion Scout yet, as we reveal our Provisional AW15 Catwalk Schedule. 

Fashion Scout will return to our London home at the Freemasons’ Hall in Covent Garden from the 20^th – 24^th of February with a packed schedule of Catwalk shows, exhibitions and events! 

Exclusively showcasing the best pioneering talent from across the globe, Fashion Scouts’ AW15 lineup includes more than 50 visionary designers from around the world hand picked by a top industry Selection Panel.

Highlights of the schedule include Friday’s Merit Award winner James Kelly, the RCA Graduate who has already received a flurry of press attention. James Kelly will be sponsored by Fashion Scout to produce his first ever London Fashion Week catwalk show. Already a favourite of Hilary Alexander OBE, Vogue UK Features Editor Jessica Bumpus and Sara Maino, Senior Editor at Vogue Italia – we expect a packed FROW.

Also presenting their debut London Fashion Week collections are designers Angel Chen, J Moon, Kim Stevenson and Minju Kim, who together form Fashion Scout’s highly anticipated Ones to Watch show on Saturday 21^st February.

Amongst those returning to the catwalk are legendary Fashion Designer Pam Hogg, SS15 Ones to Watch designer Youjia Jin, CFE Pioneer Mariana Jungmann, in addition to former Merit Award winners Gyo Yuni KImchoe and Xiao Li.

Also running from the 20^th – 23^rd of February, Fashion Scout will curate an exhibition of exciting emerging talent, including designers from around the world; Clio Peppiat, GF Hawthorne, Niro Wang and Typical Freaks.
