NEWS| E.Tautz A/W13 Catwalk Review

If any show at London Collections: Men encapsulated the essence of the British gentleman, it was E.Tautz's AW13 collection. In a colour palette of grey, black and orange, simple pieces of classic tailoring walked the runway. Suits, double-breasted coats and jumpers were all present and along with the appearance of cloche hats the entirety gave the essence of both quality and style. Patrick Grant is the creative force behind E.Tautz and along with having the whole collection produced in the UK, is constantly introducing influences from the military into the brand's Saville Row persona. In 2010, E. Tautz was awarded British menswear designer of the year at the British Fashion Awards and has since continued to make its mark on the world of menswear design.

Congratulations to E.Tautz and Patrick Grant for the consistently high level of praise received for said collection in the press.

NEWS| TOBEFRANK A/W13 Presentation Review

The wooden shelves filled with literature seem a fitting house for the AW13 collection of VFS's former One to Watch TOBEFRANK. Presented as part of the London Collections: Men, the collection embodies the essence of being a real gent, featuring pieces designed for the stylish man who appreciates both traditional and contemporary clothing of the highest quality.

Comprised of jumpers hand-stitched by Yorkshire shepherdess Sue Wiles, blazers and shirts, the collection is inspired by English literature and the story of designer Frank Phillips' father who has worked his way to success from being born into a lower working class family. Combine those influences with the label's authentic style and you have a showcase of incredibly personal pieces.






TOBEFRANK will be exhibited until Wednesday 9th January.

NEWS| Joe Turvey A/W13 Fashion East Presentation Review

Former Fashion Scout Ones to Watch designer Joe Turvey showcased his A/W13 collection yesterday as part of Fashion East's installation at London Collections: Men. 

Illustration focussed sweaters and splattered dalmatian inspired prints with sequin accents littered the collection, whilst the monochrome -with a splash of red- palette made the parallels to Cruella de Vil  clear. Heavy blazers, bomber jackets and oversized hoodies gave the collection a darker feel - juxtaposing handsomely with the dalmatian theme and real-life pup in one model's arms.

NEWS| Joe Turvey A/W13 Preview with Fashion 156

Former Fashion Scout Ones to Watch Menswear designer Joe Turvey is today showcasing his A/W13 collection as part of Fashion East's installation at BFC's London Collections: Men. Ahead of the initiative, Fashion156.com presented one of his looks as part of their London Collections: Men Preview. Meanwhile Style.com focussed on Joe in their 'Designers to Watch' feature.

NEWS| Joe Turvey interviewed by Drapers ahead of London Collections

With the London Collections: Men just around the corner our former One to Watch winner Joseph Turvey, who has been selected to be a part of Fashion East's A/W13 menswear installation, has been interviewed by Drapers. In a conversation covering what we can expect from his new collection, as well his thoughts on London Collections: Men and Fashion East, the designer has promised fun pieces that work "with a darker palette… a heavier silhouette," and experiment with black whilst retaining the humour of previous seasons.

We caught up with Joe last month and he told us, "I really can’t wait to be a part of the Fashion East installation... the location is amazing and the other designers are very talented and I’m looking forward to being a part of it."

Since graduating from the London College of Fashion with a masters in Menswear Design, the illustratively creative aesthetic Turvey is known for has been nothing but on the rise. With the London Collections: Men taking place between Monday 7th and Wednesday 9th of January, we very much look forward to seeing what he has to offer.

NEWS| Joseph Turvey in Notion magazine

You may remember VFS's coverage of London's inaugural Men's Collections back in Spring, where we covered former 'One to Watch' and alum, Joseph's Turvey's Spring/ Summer '13 collection.

Fast-forward to now, and fashion and arts mag, Notion have looked back on the showcase for their current issue, picking Turvey as a "standout from a younger wave of designers", making him truly- in our words- 'One to Watch'.

The London College of Fashion MA grad will now take to Lulu Kennedy's Fashion East, where he'll no doubt add to his growing fan-base- and you can check out what he has to say about the forthcoming LC:M installation here.

NEWS| Joe Turvey on Fashion East's Menswear Installation A/W 13/14

It's a delight to hear that former Men's OTW designer Joseph Turvey has been selected to be a part of Fashion East's AW13 menswear installation. Known for their display of the most impressive upcoming talent, Fashion East will bring together the work of London's best menswear designers and put them under one roof in January next year. 

Turvey graduated from the London College of Fashion with a BA in Womenswear Fashion Design before studying an MA in Fashion Design Technology, where he applied his illustrative skills, love of tradition and unconventional texture to menswear. "The Ones to Watch show was such an amazing experience for me," Turvey commented on being selected. "It was the starting point of my career and I am truly grateful to the Vauxhall Fashion Scout's team for their ongoing support."

As always, we tried to get the insider scoop on Joe’s AW13/14 collection and he chatted to us exclusively:

"For AW13 I am collaborating with a very well established brand... and I am super excited to see the finished products. I have moved a lot of my production to Europe and this has opened a lot of doors to new techniques and fabrications. I really can’t wait to be a part of the Fashion East installation... the location is amazing and the other designers are very talented and I’m looking forward to being a part of it."

NEWS| TO BE FRANK SS12 review by Huffington Post and Idol Mag

Showcasing her Spring/Summer 2013 collection at the London Collections, menswear designer Frank Phillips kicked things off with a presentation celebrating simplicity and modernity with an array of bright colours.

The Ones To Watch designer sparked intrigue and praise from The Huffington Post as well as IDOL magazine, both commenting on her use of colour and unique story. A whimsical approach to the modern man’s wardrobe, IDOL Magazine took a closer look at nautical inspirations behind the collection which told the tale of Great Aunt Fifi. Using her heritage and remarkable story, Frank Phillips has picked up the elements that add nostalgia and charm to the clean-cut shapes of the collection. It’s this simplicity that The Huffington Post speaks of as pieces to be added to the staple wardrobe. A style that “tends to the sartorial need of the modern gentleman”, where a sense of utility is what is important. Whilst sock suspenders and primary colours have everyone charmed, as TOBEFRANK reminds us of the child within.

NEWS| Portland Magazine's LCM summary featuring Baartmans & Siegel

On Sunday 17^th June, the three day London Collections: Men drew to a close. PORT magazine have rounded up the event with a video which features a good look at the work of Baartmans & Siegel. Designers Wouter Baartmans and Amber Siegel talk through their S/S13 marine inspired nostalgic collection, describing it as a playful, tropical escape which is “romantic but with a very accessible masculine edge.” The video also features the work of Lou Dalton and Margaret Howell as well as a look into British tailoring on Savile Row.

COLLECTIONS| Joseph Turvey SS13

“One-to-Watch” Joseph Turvey is fresh out of uni- having shown his MA just back in February- but four months on, and the LCF grad is already presenting a follow-up collection, premiering his Spring/ Summer '13 at this weekend’s London Collections: Men.

Inspired by “amidst-the-action” Attenborough, Turvey’s SS'13 is heavy on the foliage: jungle vines, and florals from the ankle-up, with magenta-blossom motif suits, and drip-tip-leaf print “dad shirts”- though markedly cooler than your “Dad”'s weekend get-up.

Turvey’s tropic-tree influence is more deep-rooted in his Spring/Summer than the conspicuous prints, though- with the jungle’s silk-greenery reflected in fern-green silk-printed shirts; the face of his-signature illustrated-boy staring back at you from the centre.
It’s also in the interjecting darker lace-knit co-ords that you come to understand there’s more to this young designer than currently understood. Turvey's less reliant on vivid colour than you might initially assume, and conceptually, explores more than is-obvious- with the jungle-green weft-knit two-piece bringing to mind a sense of entrapment; a darker facet to the theme; an insight into how he might grow as a designer.

Ultimately, Joe- in manner of design, and person- is vibrant, and whimsical, and- on the whole- a lot of fun, so “colourful”, and “sat-sitting-in-a-garland befriending chimps” is the predominant image you might leave smiling to yourself with- it’s just not the only one. Especially when you’re reminded that the tech-smart knits, and heat-reacting hibiscus is the work of a new-graduate, just two collections in…

COLLECTIONS| Baartmans and Siegel SS13

“Refined menswear, incorporating classic cuts… designed for today’s modern gent” was the official spin on “Ones to Watch”, Baartmans and Siegel’s Spring/Summer collection; though that's selling it a bit short. There's more depth to the “Baartmans man” than that, be it through the textured tiers of “broken shell” paillettes, against smooth pistachio silks; or on a more literal plane, by way of the Cuban shore-side influence referenced by the Dutch-English duo.

It’s the easy, “summer cool” of Cuban island life that you see translated in the pair’s refined, lightweight tailoring, and crisp-Swiss cottons; the grill-rift bottoms, and open-stitch knits adding to the airy nonchalance of the Baartmans boy- the sort of boy you’d watch breezing by poolside cabanas, between sips of your Rum Collins (where Wouter and Amber had us at look six).

Relaxed, and “comfortably cool”, subtlety breezes through the collection; neon-marl jersey bottoms, and pearlescent sheen shorts, daring in the detail, but downplayed for daily wear.
However, enter Baartmans and Siegel’s established design persona- infusing classicism by form; modernity by finish- and you have the bolder pieces that both make the collection, and allow for the Baartmans "boy" to become man. 

Deconstructed nappa leathers, and opalescent, embossed-croc suits finished their Spring/Summer, showing that Baartmans and Siegel permit, and provide leverage to either elevate, or reign-in classicism, and modernity respectively; correspondent to how brave you're willing to be. 


We don't expect you to head out, and grab a coffee in head-to-toe mock-croc, but a little broidery anglaise 'n' sparkle isn't going to scare the barista off...

NEWS| E.Tautz's Patrick Grant interviewed by GQ

Ahead of showcasing the Spring/Summer "E.Tautz man" at this weekend's London Collections, Saville Row-trained head designer, Patrick Grant got talking to GQ online about what has him cackling over next season, London's curry one-upmanship, and a seventies style-tip for the "modern" man.

COLLECTION| E.Tautz showcases SS13 designs at London Collections

Vauxhall Fashion Scout menswear designer E.Tautz showcased their SS13 collection on Saturday morning as part of London Collections: Men. The catwalk took place at the Wapping Wall location as part of the first Men's Fashion Week, hosted by BFC. The Spring/Summer 2013 line, which was inspired by British explorer and all-round gent Wilfred Thesiger, saw a more relaxed ready to wear collection come from Patrick Grant, the designer behind E.Tautz. 

A plethora of bright block colours were portrayed in a mixture of pleated shorts, tailored trousers, loose kaftans, crisp shirts and double breasted suits. Whilst the Thesiger print homage (customised with bright sunglasses) showed a more playful side to E.Tautz.

COLLECTION| TOBEFRANK SS13

Opening London’s first showcase with just the boys in mind, VFS 'One-to-Watch', TOBEFRANK kicked off London Collections: Men with a pop-blocked, primary-coloured Spring/ Summer collection.

TOBEFRANK, a British menswear brand- heavy on the British- pushed heritage home from the ground-up; from the collection’s home-based construction, to the memories TBF’s pillar-box reds, and fisherman-mac yellows brought to forefront of those watching.

The live installation- with models lined, awaiting hair and make-up touch-ups, being redressed, and patted down on-loop- showcased head-to-toe looks in blocked-primary colour; contrast-collar snap-button polos, and bright circle, cut-out shirts pushing modernity through the collections traditionally conceived construction.

There’s a “red, blue, yellow; triangle, circle, square” simplicity in TOBEFRANK’s Spring/Summer looks that takes you back to your early-days, stacking Mega-Bloks pre-nursery- which is essentially what TBF’s Frances “Frank” Phillips has grounded the collection in: a look back in order to look forward; a look at home-grown hertitage, and using it to build something new; modern. 

Just what the TOBEFRANK man is- bright, bold and modern- whilst paying homage to his roots. Think "cheeky charmer", who- at the end of the day- will always make time for a cuppa over a story with Gran. Nice lad; we think you'll like him. #VFS

NEWS| Joe Turvey in the press in the run up to London Collections

Vauxhall Fashion Scout menswear designer and recent graduate Joe Turvey is a very busy bee - as he is preparing for his installation at the London Collections: Men which commences tomorrow, he has been featured favourable in the online fashion press. 

First off, French publication WAD magazine looks over Joe's AW12 collection and praises the vibrant shades: 

"We leave the black faithful to winter aside, to slip on acid colours such as yellow, orange or pink. What [a way] to warm up the cold season.”

Meanwhile, Fashion 156 previews a look from Joe Turvey's SS13 look ahead of the London Collections. This tie-dye, Hawaiian inspired shirt and short combo whets our trend appetite of what's to come from Joe. They interview him as part of their 'Designer Track' Series where they chat colour, Beyonce and Vauxhall Fashion Scout. 

 “You seem to have progressed quickly through from your graduate collection to showing at VFS and now COLLECTIONS. Can you describe how it feels?

NEWS| T.Lipop's AW12 Lookbook

Vauxhall Fashion Scout designer T.Lipop has released his lookbook images for his AW12 collection. Edgy, tailored yet somewhat Neanderthal, Tom showcased the  frostbitten collection at the The Fashion East Menswear Installation moments before hitting the Freemason's catwalk in February.


Designer Tom Lipop is one of ten designers who have been granted the opportunity to showcasing their Spring / Summer creations through Fashion East as part of BFC's brand new London Collections: Men which takes place this month.

T.Lipop's SS designs will be displayed through the installation on June 17th and you can still register for an industry pass here, Meanwhile, make sure you follow T.Lipop on Twitter as he has been excitedly tweeting about the progress he's making with his designs and the upcoming event!
