Ming’s
SS15 Fashion Scout presentation of his collection 'Epilogue'
showcases a lesson in both juxtaposition and performance art. Ming’s
stunning spectacle began with pianist, Rickie-Lee Cooper, taking to a
piano positioned in the centre of the vestibule as he set the tone
for the collection with music which encompassed feelings of both soft
fragility and high drama.
Models began to emerge to a scene of fallen
flowers amid concrete blocks. Inspired by ‘Never Let me Go’, a
novel by Japanese born British author Kazuo Ishiguro, Ming explores
the contrasting notions of the gentleness of love against the harsh
nature of death and the limitations of time. Ming’s scene of
derelict beauty becomes the perfect backdrop for a collection which
layers raw edged leather and cotton with soft sheer fabrics and more
feminine ruffled detailing. Silhouettes are cut open creating a
balance between structure and fluidity. Details are constructed including giant leather pockets and knotted tasselling feature
heavily throughout and provide elements of organic form which
juxtapose with straight tailored cuts.
The inevitability of life and
death is central to 'Epilogue' and each detail throughout the
collection is contrasted with an opposing emotion. A muted colour
palette of white, aqua, grey and black tones adds an almost sombre
and still feel to proceedings as Ming highlights the fragility of
humanity and the ever changing nature of life throughout his
collection.
