BACKSTAGE| The Body Shop make-up look for MATH AW12

A line up of girls with porcelain skin and quirky ponytails wear pencil skirts and geometric shifts cut from heritage fabrics. Some of the models hopple in black stilettos whilst the luckier ones wear Nike trainers with messenger bags coolly slung over their shoulders. They look like fresh young city girls.

To accompany the collection The Body Shop’s Jo Sugar chose a bare, fresh faced look. She explains,

“The collection is inspired by English heritage and all of the materials are made in the UK. I wanted to create a look that gave the impression that the girls had just been out for a country walk, so very fresh and dewy skinned with a slight flush in the cheeks and a tint in the lips from where the blood has been flowing. I used face mist to show a bit of sweat. So all very natural.”

Jo gave the models and good base covering of The Body Shop ‘vitamin e cream’ to provide lots of moisture before applying ‘extra virgin mineral foundation’ in light tones. The team used matt brown shades from The Body Shop ‘eyebrow tint kit’ around the eye sockets to show contouring and “make the eyes pop”, along with ‘light matt and shimmer cheek colour’ on the eyes and lip gloss was used on the lids. ‘Define and lengthen mascara’ was softened with brow gel, which also served to groom the brows and concealer was used inside the eye to give a clean look. The cheeks were illuminated with ‘no2 eye colour’ and the subtle English rose cheek flush was captured using ‘cheek colour no1 petal nuances’. Finally a generous spritz of the vitamin face cream upped the dewyness.
