NEWS| Anne Sofie Madsen Browns Blog Takeover

Following the two previous blog takeovers by both Lily Silverton BLK DNM ; this week see’s Royal Academy of Fine Art graduate, Anne Sofie Madsen takeover the Brown’s Fashion Blog.

On Day 1, Anne shared with us a collection of images from which she took inspiration for her SS13 Cherrilee Collection; inspired by the Miracle Strip Amusement Park in Miami, Florida, ‘a once-popular but now decayed paradise at the beach’.

The images, combined with her illustrations, portray the ruins of memories of joy and pleasures; whilst Anne explains the collection aims to personify a Malibu Beach Barbie who has been buried in the playground for about a year and then picked up by a pit bull’, in order to present the vision of abandoned thrills and discarded pleasures. In particular, Anne demonstrates how a particular silk top from the final collection includes a ghostly woman’s face, white pit bull terriers, mirrored dinosaurs heads, dark forestry and nostalgic dripping ice cream cones; to capture this vision through the medium of print.

Day 2 sees images from the Cherilee SS13 Catwalk, in keeping with Anne’s brand aesthetic and her vision throughout her collections (to show the well-known thorough the un-known, by utilizing traditional handcraft methods and couture techniques); the collection sees delicate embellished and embroidered dresses and twin sets, met by leather appliqué, heavy white masculine hightops and unconventional patterns.

In progression Day 3 presents powerful images from the Cherilee SS13 campaign of the Melting Ice Dress, the Shelley Dress, the Candy Crystal Dress and the Spikey Dress – the latter of which is featured in DANSK Magazine. Whilst today's images look behind the scenes of the shoot.

NEWS| Anne Sofie Madsen in Tomorrow's Journal Magazine

A series of beautiful illustrations by one of Fashion Scout's One to Watch alumni, Anne Sofie Madsen, has appeared in issue five of Tomorrow's Journal magazine. The detailed, textured works combine photography with illustration and border on the surreal, showing that she's as talented an artist as she is a designer. Having received a reputation internationally for her intricate dresses and bold pieces, Madsen was born and bred in Denmark. Known to experiment with contrast and material in the creation of impressive results, we can't help but agree with the publication's description of the designer as "one of Denmark's biggest design talents."

POSCARD FROM PARIS| Anne Sofie Madsen

Vauxhall Fashion Scout's Ones To Watch alumni is receiving international recognition. Danish designer Anne Sofie Madsen, presented her SS13 collection during Copenhagen Fashion Week this season, and as the coveted designer joins the Vauxhall Fashion Scout Paris Showroom, we catch up with her on her show response and the importance of Paris Fashion Week...

You have recently shown your SS13 collection during Copenhagen Fashion Week an in New York, how did you find the response from the shows?

We started this season with a show during Copenhagen Fashion Week after which we did another show in New York. Additionally, Anne Sofie Madsen was selected as part of Vogue Talents in Milan during fashion week, where we also participated. The feedback has been really nice from all places, but in each place, different pieces were highlighted and complimented, which I always find really interesting.

What is the importance of showcasing your collection in Paris?
Paris this season is the most important fashion week for our brand in terms of sales and production.

What are you most looking forward to during Paris Fashion Week?
I have learned that Paris is the most important fashion week regarding the commercial aspects of the brand, so to me VFS was the obvious choice. I really enjoy being presented together with other designers that are also working with the same techniques that me – and also the fact that the VFS showroom creates a very intimate space and therefore enables opportunities of meeting all the buyers who are visiting.

Anne Sofie Madsen's full collection will be available to view in the Vauxhall Fashion Scout Paris Showroom until 2nd October 2012.

COLLECTION| Anne Sofie Madsen Spring/Summer '13

In her three-season run, previous VFS ‘One to Watch’, and Paris-exhibitor, Anne Sofie Madsen has established an aesthetic inherently dark at it’s core- roots embedded in the history of mythical tribes, and indigenous peoples- yet opposed in it’s lightness; diaphanous chiffon a fixed composite of each season.

This season, the latter-“lightness” took center, showing skin through sheer bodies, and delicate, pleat-skirted dresses- but there was the same spirit in the eyes of Madsen’s girl. The same socketed, furrowed glare more conspicuously mirrored by previous season’s barbuous cut-outs. Spring/ Summer saw Anne Sofie add literal depth to her aggressive skeletal cut-out- featuring it more regularly, but lifting it from leather, to three-dimensional bone-chip pailettes- more integrated into designs, as opposed to appearing distinctly separate.

Perhaps that’s the crux of Madsen’s Spring/ Summer- be it for marketability, or just the fact that it’s Summer, and we’re stripping off; “lighter” on the whole (in theory). Given the heavy-duty baseball sweaters, with their whipstitch wrists- more catered to changeable weather- we’d think the former, with the introduction of “street-wear” jackets a wearable extension of the Madsen girl’s established ‘tude.
It ties in with the designer-illustrator’s printed, scenic tees- and now, skirts: a microcosm of the “Anne Sofie” aesthetic. It’s an aesthetic with scope, whose source has as much depth as the new season’s dimensions, and layered, embellished, sculptural dresses and skirts.
There's skill beyond craft; every decision is calculated; inspirations manifested by way of subtle tokens. It's that considered approach to embedding wearability beneath a statement that had us call her out as "One-to-Watch"
