BACKSTAGE| Eugene Lin FEB'13

Ahead of the AW13 Euguene Lin Show, Fashion Scout caught up with Toni & Guy, The Body Shop and FTWS to hear about the concept they have created to complement Eugene’s AW13 designs, which are a sequel to his Greek mythology inspired SS13 Collection.

The Body Shop’s Lan Nguyen explained that the make-up aesthetic she has been working on is both severe representing war but soft to personify love. ‘We have used three densities of black fading from the eyelid to the brow, which has been blocked out. We have also introduced a triangle of gold leaf to highlight the rich gold metal in the AW13 Collection’. Face make up was matte and contoured to compliment the dark eyes, with key products including Mineral Finishing Powder and Kohl Liner.

In terms of hair, the style conceptualises a warrior-esq tight braid, high on top of the head accompanied by a low ponytail at the back. Bill from Toni & guy told us that if a female went to war ‘they would not want a strand of hair on their face so they were ready for action!’ – this is the functionality that he has recreated. Nails desgined by Zaida from FTWS were black high gloss with gold tips, using Orly Polish.

BACKSTAGE| Merit Award: Yifang Wan FEB'13

Backstage at our much anticipated Merit Award Winner, Yifang Wan, the teams at Toni & Guy and The Body Shop were hard at work to create a beautiful look for the show.

Summarised as "all about the skin", makeup was completely neutral; emphasising a youthful, dewy complexion.  The absence of colour on the eyes and the lips not only enhanced the look's simplicity, but also drew the gaze to highlighted cheekbones and the angle of the jawline.

Hair was much in the same vein; natural, tousled waves cascading down the back from a side-parting, and then gathered in a loosely-fastened ponytail.

BACKSTAGE| Belle Sauvage FEB'13

In the build up to the Belle Sauvage A/W'13 show, Fashion Scout stole backstage to witness the creative works of our sponsors The Body Shop and Toni & Guy. The designer's signature prints and bold plethora of colours make a reappearance this season, in addition to the A/W'13 offering of structured features and linear silhouettes.

This direction led the Body Shop team to take on a more 'feminine aesthetic'. To complement and contrast with the impact of the collection, models exhibited a 'soft smoky eye' and a 'classic red lip' to keep the look youthful.

Toni & Guy's look for the show exhibited hair slicked back into enhanced bunchies, complete with textured fringes. The aesthetic was 'fun and futuristic', with the ultimate effect giving models a puerile yet contemporary appearance.

BACKSTAGE| Lug Von Siga FEB'13

The hair and makeup look backstage at Lug Von Siga was the epitome of subtle, understated chic.  Hair was smooth and sleek; swept over in a side-parting, then fastened in a low-ponytail at the nape of the neck.  This sophisticated aesthetic was reflected in the makeup, which juxtaposed a clean base and a nude lip, with a statement smokey-eye.

SPONSOR| Toni&Guy return to Vauxhall Fashion Scout as Official Backstage Hair Stylists

Toni & Guy, long-term Sponsors of Vauxhall Fashion Scout are back for S/S13, creating amazing looks for the next generation of designers at London Fashion Week.

With over 30 shows, the backstage teams have their work cut out for them, with a range of contrasting looks and hundreds of models, the Toni & Guy stylists are working directly with designers to bring their collections to life on the catwalk. In a spare moment amidst the madness, we caught up with one of the fantastic backstage team, to discuss favourite designers, inspirations and seasons past and present.

Hi Emma, It's great to have you back at Vauxhall Fashion Scout, what is it that keeps bringing you back?
Vauxhall Fashion Scout is great because you get to see young designers ideas, see how trends are moving forward every season, and for me as a hairdresser- I like to link my work and hair in to fashion, so it gives me lots of inspiration and ideas on how I can progress my own work.

What’s been your favourite show to work for?
I’m working on Manuela Dack later today and I’m really exited for that, her collection is absolutely stunning and the hairs going to look beautiful.

How do you feel as VFS as a platform for upcoming designers?
It’s a great way for new designers to show their work and hopefully start developing themselves into the industry. We bring the hair concepts and hopefully try and develop hair that really compliments the designers collections, so that they tell a full story.
