NEWS| Leutton Postle featured on Susie Bubble's BoF column

The first Bubble and Speak column by renowned fashion blogger Susie Bubble on Business of Fashion (BoF) features former Vauxhall Fashion Scout Merit Award Winner Leutton Postle.

The column is a space where Susie Lau focusses on emerging design talent and the Central St Martins graduate Sam Leutton and Jenny Postle - known in the fashion world as Leutton Postle - take the floor in her debut column.

The blog post develops an insight into Susie's feelings as she saw Jenny's graduate collection - before she had teamed with Sam -,  "she was someone who could come into a fashion house and, for want of a better word, spice up textures by doing knitwear and textiles research", the fact that the design duo's collections are being showcased at Vauxhall Fashion Scout, "the duo have been showing their collections off-schedule, as part of the Vauxhall Fashion Scout initative, which goes to show that the British Fashion Council’s NewGen scheme doesn’t necessarily reflect the full breadth of talent that is currently active in London" and their most recent "most polished yet" collection, S/S13

A refreshing look into the talents of Leutton Postle, the post is accompanied by photographs of the said S/S13 show and Susie wearing their designs.

NEWS| Vauxhall Fashion Scout, the Home of New Talent; scouting the next generation of British Design Talent

Supporting, nurturing and showcasing new talent is what Vauxhall Fashion Scout is all about; bridging the gap between mainstream media, press and industry and emerging, new and even graduating designers.

Hand-selecting designers each season, and scouting the Graduate Showcases from across the country make VFS a personal and intimate showcase to be a part of. With help from esteemed members of the industry- including Vogue.co.uk, Browns, Avenue 32, Not Just A Label, Selfridges and POP magazine, S/S13 saw an amazing array of new talent for our off-schedule London Fashion Fashion Week.

The Vauxhall Fashion Scout One's To Watch showcase is always.. well, one to watch, however this season Hellen Van Rees, Charlotte Simpson, Hana Cha and Ming Pin Tien brought a series of collections that produced a wave of appreciation for the sheer magnetism of new talent in the industry.
Last season's Merit Award Winner Phoebe English brought in the crowds, including Front Row Guests from The Shop Bluebird, Dover Street Market, CSM & Susie Bubble- who also visited One's To Watch designer from last season, Myzra De Muynck, backstage and Manuela Dack who has been featured many a time on Stylebubble.com.

Long standing Vauxhall Fashion Scout designers Leutton Postle are often featured in mainstream media and press, impressing the industry with their attention to detail and use of bright and vivid colours to produce an eye-catching, slight tongue-in-cheek but completely wearable collection; a stark contrast to this season's Merit Award winner Heohwan Simulation- who's sharp lines and clean aesthetic are some-what of a calling card for his unparalleled blend of menswear tailoring and femininity in his collections.

This season, however, saw the celebration of the Graduate designer. With Kingston University showing their MA collection as part of of our off-schedule line up, and debut catwalk collections from Sabine Bryntesson and Zeynup Tosun- the industry can't get enough of these fresh and young-minded designers. Having received attention from Vogue, Sabina Bryntesson's collection did not disappoint, with Zeynup Tosun being highlighted by Susie Bubble as a highlight for the season.

Vauxhall Fashion Scout, unparalleled for the appreciation and support of next generation designers, showcase every season with a new line-up of hand-picked emerging designers. For more information on VFS and the designers themselves, head to the new-look website- www.vauxhallfashionscout.com

INTERVIEW| Susie Bubble at Vauxhall Fashion Scout S/S13

You've been to quite a few of the shows here this season at Vauxhall Fashion Scout; what is your impression of what the off-schedule platform has to offer?
"A lot of the people who are showing here at Vauxhall Fashion Scout have done Central Saint Martins MA, and it's a shame that they can't go on schedule, but what off schedule provides is a platform for them to show their work and people like Leutton Postle, who I think are a really amazing artisanal knitwear duo, you know, they've got something really fresh to say. It's great that they get to do a show like this."

What has been your impression of London Fashion Week SS13 so far?
"Really great. Everyone's really pushing it in terms of fabric innovation, pushing different textures so from my point of view I think it's really fantastic."

INTERVIEW| Leutton Postle

It's the last day of Vauxhall Fashion Scout, and what better way to start the climax of events than with Leutton Postle, who always give us exciting, bold collections. Known for their use of colour, innovation and hand-craft, the perfect pairing that is Sam Leutton and Jenny Postle channel all of their wonderful creativity into diverse, electric designs. VFS caught up with the two of them before the show to find out a little bit about SS13.

VFS: Hi Sam and Jenny, can you give us an insight into the starting point of the collection?
JP: The inspirations were traditional textiles techniques, patch working, collage and beading.
SL: We started with looking at traditional patterns like argyle and really simple old fashioned patterns and then we re-worked it and kind of messed it up a bit and mixed that in with old tasselling techniques so that's why the macrame, fringing and beading are in there. Then we whacked a load of glitter in to give it a bit of a disco feel but also quite tropical.

VFS: The hand-working techniques are really interesting, why did you choose to do that?
SL: We've concentrated a lot on finish this season, we made our fabrics on different machines so we are still doing all of the hand-finishing but we are using more sophisticated fabrics and polishing the shape and finish, retaining that craft element that we have.

COLLECTION| Leutton Postle S/S13

Leutton Postle SS13 Catwalk Show from VAUXHALL FASHION SCOUT on Vimeo.

Former Vauxhall Fashion Scout Merit Award winners Leutton Postle showcased their Spring / Summer 2013 collection this morning on the last day of Vauxhall Fashion Scout. The Central Saint Martins graduates Jenny Postle and Sam Leutton kicked the day off here at the Freemason’s Hall with a collection inspired by mixing heritage fabrics with traditional techniques of patterning such as quilting, patchwork and fare isle.

Pink light floods the room as models grace the presentation area three by three to the sound of beats that proclaim “We are the children of paradise!”, the backdrop for Leutton Postle’s disco tribe collection . Crotchet and fringing drapes over glittered knit dresses and mixed patterns, that showcase the design team’s amazing composition of colour and texture.  Sheer flared trousers are accompanied with layers of knit and asymmetric cuts, with big and bold collars that anchor the collection’s polished shapes.  Combining elements of sophistication and youth the silhouette is clean with elements such as neon and customised fusible plastic beads that create warmth in their childlike energy. Candy coloured accessories with neon backpacks and decorated sunglasses are reminiscent of childhood summers that add the perfect finishing touches to the collection.

Their innovative use of knit and hand crochet techniques created in-house have had the brand featured in publications such as Dazed & Confused and Vogue Magazine. Embracing colour and texture, their approach to design has a depth that embodies both creativity and craftsmanship. A first for Leutton Postle, the designers work with super fine knits for this Spring/Summer 2013 collection creating new textures and exploring their vibrant aesthetic signature in new ways. With Leutton Postle, the mundane is heightened, colours are never flat, and knits taken out of their norm, this is a collection that is a natural progression from their previous work where we see the designers come into their own.

BACKSTAGE| Leutton Postle S/S13

The hairstyles were fun and playful for Leutton Postle this season; VFS spoke to Head Hairstylist Indira Schauwecker about the inspirations for the look ahead of Spring/ Summer.
“[We are working with] a very loose ponytail, kind of working with a dry texture internally but with a very shiny ponytail and then we are going to work with giving the style a little more comic character in the front and having this drawn wave. It needs to be quite modern and not dated at all.”
We also spoke to Head Make-up artist LAN Nguyen about the look The Body Shop are creating for this show - “The make up was quite fresh; it was all about a textured lip, the pop brow. For the lips we've used the Body Shop 'Rosy Red', alongside with the lipstick number 59 which is a pop pink. We've used the pink eyeshadow 'Berry Cherry' and to make it pop we've used 'Something Blue'.”

Famed for their celebration of textural fabrics, an abundance of colour, and innovative textiles techniques, Leutton Postle are always bringing something fresh and new that is untouched by restraints of trends but is an expressions of both of their artistic natures. They always pay such attention to detail and craft creating stunning knits that are bold and forward-thinking. VFS chatted to Sam and Jenny backstage who told us that for SS13 “The inspirations were traditional textiles techniques, patch working, collage and beading .... We've concentrated a lot on finish this season, we made our fabrics on different machines so we are still doing all of the hand-finishing but we are using more sophisticated fabrics and polishing the shape and finish, retaining that craft element that we have.” From the look of things backstage, the collection is just full of playfulness and colour but it seems clear that Leutton Postle are constantly developing their aesthetic into something refreshing.

NEWS| Browns Blog Takeover Day Four: Leutton Postle

We're over half way through our VFS Browns Blog Takeover and today we brought you an exclusive catch up with former Merit Award Winners Leutton Postle. Luxury knitwear designing duo Sam Leutton and Jenny Postle chatted with us about the honour of being stocked by Browns, the support they've received from Vauxhall Fashion Scout and the upcoming SS13 season...

"You're showing with Vauxhall Fashion Scout again this September, what can we expect to see from you this coming season? What's been the biggest source of inspiration with regards to Spring/Summer?
This season we are doing a salon show presentation, which is new for us. It will be very different to the wham bam boom of the last two seasons but we want to excite in another way. As for inspiration we're keeping everything under wraps until September, but we hope to raise heads with the direction we are taking. What we will say is we're working with introducing the idea of 'luxury' to Leutton Postle, which is both challenging and exciting!"

As always, read the full post on Browns Blog here!

COLLECTIONS| Raffaele Ascione, Myrza de Muynck & Leutton Postle Press & Sales Day

This week, we paid a visit to VFS designers, Raffaele Ascione, Myrza de Muynck, and Leutton Postle for their AW12 press and sales day. Whilst you may have seen us boast of cake on Twitter, we can promise, that's only the second thing that kept us there...

The Central Saint Martins grads took to Mowlem Galleries to set up shop, and discuss their collections with the press; discussions that dropped hints at what to expect beyond Autumn/Winter... We can't share anything yet, but when the time comes to spill, you're first on our list, so make sure you follow us on Twitter! You'll find Raffaele, Myrza and Leutton Postle on there too, giving you first-hand insights into their creative process.
