NEWS| VFS as a platform for emerging talent

Vauxhall Fashion Scout prides itself as a platform serving to promote innovative, and emerging design talent to a global audience of press, buyers, and style leaders. Having provided a springboard for now-established, and successful designers, sibling-duo Felder Felder, Giorgian-born David Koma, and print pioneers, Christopher De Vos, and Peter Pilotto, we’re aware of the importance of guiding innovative design talent in the initial stages of their careers. 

We touched-base with recent alumni, and current VFS designers to find out what they’ve gained from their Freemasons showcase, and to show what future creatives can gain from applying to show with us, at Vauxhall Fashion Scout.

NEWS| Manuela Dack in Vogue Italia

Manuela Dack is a designer already accustomed to having her name and work appearing in the press since her graduation from Middlesex University. This time, it's the June issue of Vogue Italia that's included her work. After visiting the VFS Paris showroom last season, Dack's beaded swimsuit caught the eye of illustrator Lele Acquarone and she has featured the piece in her Vogue Italia scrapbook pages accompanied by a beautiful illustration. With Acquarone encouraging Dack “to produce something equally as whimsical (and unwearable) for this season.” we look forward to what the future holds.

NEWS| Leutton Postle launch newsletter

Former VFS Merit Award Winners, Leutton Postle have had a busy week- what, with guest editing the Browns blog, being featured in Hunger mag, and preparing for Spring/Summer '13 being just a snippet of what they've been up to.

You might ask how we know all this, and as much as we'd like to say it's the result of many hours spent trawling the web, the pair have in fact just launched a Leutton Postle newsletter. You can subscribe to their online updates here, and also follow them on Twitter @LEUTTONPOSTLE to be kept in the loop with all things Sam, and Jenny.

COLLECTIONS| Myrza de Muynck's Autumn/Winter pick

Earlier this month, "One to Watch", Myrza de Muynck picked out her collection-favourite, explaining her choice to the VFS team. Holding up a terry-loop sweater with blush, gauze overlay, and hand-finished embellishment, the young designer explained the selection as "really feminine, but easy-going- you can just put it on- I like the lightness of it, really." She also went on to explain the "cheeky" element to the show styling- seen in the video above- claiming the "quirkiness" injected via bold animal prints, and colour-blocked accents was a play on the effeminate pastel pinks, adding character to the cool, "at-ease" Muynck-girl we're now so used to seeing. We suppose all that explains why VOGUE.com's Jessica Bumpus picked this "One to Watch" as a fashion week favourite.

NEWS| "One to Watch" Myrza de Muynck appearing on BBC's "One Show"

"One to Watch" Myrza de Muynck will be appearing on BBC's The One Show this evening to talk her interpretation of the eighties wardrobe staple: the shell-suit. Worn by British subcultures from all walks of life, the nylon two-piece was seen on everyone from sportsmen of note, to early-nineties hip-hop groups. Chances are that memories of sporting the ubiquitous get-up will incite a long groan, and a "did I really do that?"- which is part and parcel of why the Central Saint Martin grad- and VOGUE fashion week fave- will be featured in tonight's show. Vauxhall Fashion Scout is about sourcing innovative, emerging talent; and being able to reinterpret a piece remembered with disdain into something decidedly feminine, and luxe is evidence enough of why we proclaimed Myrza "One to Watch."

NEWS| Fashion Fringe names semi-finalists

Yesterday saw the announcement of the 2012 Fashion Fringe semi-finalists; one of which was Vauxhall Fashion Scout's own, Raffaele Ascione. Shortlisted by chairman- and creative director at Burberry- Christopher Bailey, Ascione, and his fellow semi-finalists are competing for the chance to showcase their respective collections during next season's London Fashion Week. 

We spoke to Raffaele following the news, and here's what he had to say about the achievement:

"I'm really excited- chuffed- to have been hand picked by Christopher Bailey, as I like his work. myself.
I am working on one outfit for the interview, so will be focusing on that, and making sure its going to look absolutely amazing!"

... & no doubt it will.
