COLLECTION | Kiev Fashion Days

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Days Kiev is celebrating its second year anniversary at Fashion Scout AW15 showcasing three upcoming, international young and innovative designers. Agency More Dash presented the latest collections from rising talents Anna K, Dinara Nurlan and Pentatonica. All three collections flowed from one another the music creating a harmonious atmosphere throughout the presentation.

Anna K
19 year old former model created a fantasy world of girly fashion using cartoonish characters combined with dreamy dresses and smart separates in a modern fashion. The collection was inspired by fairy tale "The Little Match Girl" and divides into two parts, much like the book itself. The first part of the collection showcases a darker mood; a freezing girl on Christmas Eve wearing multitudes of knitted layers and obscure colours. The second part of the show represents the dramatic change of the story with the collection sparkling up like a lit up match. The use of crystal embroidery presents the idea of wealth and extravagance whilst remaining fragile. Central to the collection bows not only embellished the designs but became a garment in its own right.

Dinara Nurlan
The womenswear designer showcased her second collection 'Herbarium' on the Fashion Scout runway. Nurlan describes her brand as a combination of modernity, quality and individuality through playing with fabrics, shapes and patterns. The designer drew inspiration from a four-leaf clover she found tucked inside of an old book years ago and recalls collecting flowers to create a collection of dried plants and precious memories as her 'Herbarium'. We saw muted hues of a winter forest with dark prints and painted leaf patterns. The looks from her collection reflect warmth and comfort from the loose, chunky knits and billowing long lines.

Pentatonica
Designers Kira Maysheva and Saule Dzhamil presented a collection inspired by a musical mode of five notes creating a Pentatonic scale. The duos philosophy is to design for those whom improvise with their style; individuality is imperative to this upcoming brands ethos. The use of natural fabrics and earthy tones create essential wardrobe staples and edgy statement pieces presenting the question can loneliness give freedom? Far from dark and moody the pair attempt to focus on the positive aspects of loneliness. Soft materials and colours display their convincing ideas of the positive outcomes of solitude.

COLLECTION | Apu Jan

Inspired by an imaginary forest, the new collection of Apu Jan, “Deep into the woods” was followed by the music, which combining electronic sounds, vocals, bass, guitar and violin created the perfect atmosphere of the forest.

The oriental looks walked down the catwalk looking like paintings; the modern digital prints, showing a series of delicate creatures, created a sense of nostalgia and a dreamy state, telling stories that Jan perfectly portrayed through the uses of various hand knitting and machine knitting techniques.

The elegant was combined perfectly with the casual style and bright blue tones were mixed with greyscale. Thick loose jumpers alternated with tight clean pencil skirts while the fabrics, the colors and the shapes created an interesting contrast between each other.

Again Apu Jan created a perfect dreamy scene, an escape for everyone who are constantly attached to the nostalgia of fantasy worlds.

COLLECTION | Ashley Isham

This Autumn/Winter is going to be all about chunky knitwear, feathered fur and metallic leather according to Ashley Isham. Ashley returns to Fashion Scout with an astonishing new collection. The designer from Singapore sure knows how to put on a show by starting off with an oriental dance piece whilst guests were making their way to their seats.

The collection ensures you will be wrapped up this winter with multiple layers of wool and fur. The main colour palette used includes shades of navy, burgundy and dark purple; these colours came to life with the gold embellishment and the amazing headpieces that included long fringes over the models’ face. This added a sense of mysteriousness to the collection.

The overall shapes used in the collection were very fitted which celebrated a womans body in all of the right places; this was done with leather belts and draped fabric. The navy wool gave the collection a military look but turned fun and exciting with neon coloured pom poms and bells attached the models shoes.

Towards the end of the show we were given many night time looks which were classic, elegant and timeless. Theses pieces were beautiful as they included sequins and embellishment which caught the light as the models walked down the runway.

In conclusion I think the collection was really classic and fun with a hint of heritage. It was great to see how much Ashley can do due to how many different styled pieces we got to see in this great collection.

MINNAN HUI | Collection

Central Saint Martins graduate Minnan Hui started London Fashion Week off with a bang. Starting the show off with an oriental feel, Minnans collection has many themes flowing within such as structured layers, bright colours and subtle but bold prints.

Minnan is no stranger to playing with shape when it comes to designing; it is obvious that fabric manipulation is one of her strong points as seen in her show. Ruching, pleats and ruffles were what made the pieces look so third dimensional, this added to the boldness of her aesthetic and made the collection different and exciting.

The colours used had a very playful feel about them as some of them clashed and others contrasted with white backgrounds. Sheer fabric with black brushstrokes was used within the layers of some of the looks, this broke up the bold colour blocks. Yellow screen prints of rope were also used on parts of the collection which gave it a fun and oriental feel about it.

Trimmings of what looked like coloured shoe laces were embroidered on to the top of pieces and were left hanging off with gold ends, this to me made the collection have a slight sporty feel about it. The gold at the end of the laces caught the light during the show, which gave the pieces a glimmer. Silver textured fabric and gold metallic skirts also added light to the collection and block prints.

Overall the collection was really strong due to the colour palette and the origami look Minnan Hui is so good at.
