Florence Welch Wears BodyAmr SS '11 Collection

It has only been a few weeks since Amr Ali unveiled his creations for BodyAmr SS’11, but Florence Welch of Florence & The Machine has already been invited to wear a piece from the latest collection. Last Friday night Florence performed on the Ellen DeGeneres show in the US dressed in a beautiful nude, double-layered, bodycon dress: the third look shown on the Body Amr runway at London Fashion Week this season.

BodyAmr S/S 11 Show Documentary

Those who attend London Fashion Week are privileged to witness the glamour and glitz of a runway show, but very little get to observe what goes on back stage before and after a designer’s collection is unveiled. However for SS ’11, Amr Ali, the man behind acclaimed womenswear label BodyAmr, has released a fashion documentary that not only showcases his latest collection (modelled by famous faces including Daisy Lowe and Amber Rose) but also ‘behind the scenes’ footage of the show’s preparation.

Posthuman Wardrobe Fashion Film

Film has increasingly become the ‘number one’ medium for showcasing a new collection or a fashion story. As well as successful runway shows, presentations and exhibitions this season, some of our designers including Carianne Moore and Posthuman Wardrobe have also opted to present their designs to the world through a digital form by creating short Fashion films.

Posthuman Wardrobe’s film presents us with an ‘urban’ aesthetic conveyed through street fighting and break dancing which was also featured at their London Fashion Week presentation last month.

Prophetik: A Documentary with Jeff Garner

As Fashion Week approaches Jeff Garner of Prophetik stars in an insightful documentary about his label. The short film explores his concept, some of the beautiful organic processes used as well as a glimpse of what goes on backstage!

We are already anticipating a fantastic show as last year the models strutted down the catwalk to a live rock act including members from both Def Leppard and the Sex Pistols! After watching this we are even more excited for this seasons show which takes place on Friday 17th September 2010 at the Vauxhall Fashion Scout venue.

Una Burke in Ozzy Osbourne's new video

Fashion and music have combined once again when Vauxhall Fashion Scout designer, Una Burke, was asked for one of her pieces to be featured in Ozzy Osbourne’s latest music video for new single ‘Let Me Hear You Scream.’ The piece in question is the same structural basque that also helped Burke in becoming a finalist in the accessories category of the international fashion competition, ITS#EIGHT. With a MA degree in Fashion Artefact from LCF, Burke’s work has been described as ‘carcass-like’ as each artefact is hand crafted from vegetable tanned leather, resulting in a colour and quality that is representative of human flesh…No wonder Ozzy loved it!

House of Blueeyes: Fashion Week Film

The House of Blueeyes presentation was undoubtedly more wild, raucous and fantastically crazy than anything we witnessed over Fashion Week, and judging by the amount of jaws on the floor and eyes on stalks, the audience of experienced show-goers were equally as awestruck. Loud, proud and always with a sexy swagger in his hips and a smile on his face, Johnny has made this fabulous film of his AW10 presentation, reminding us all just why we adore him. Negative attitudes, look away now, heeeeere’s Johnny!

Kensington Palace’s transformation into the Enchanted Palace has been unveiled at last. Fiona Anderson dons her crown and corset for a journey into the secret past of this royal residence.

Recently, a rare, never before seen portrait of Queen Victoria was released. Painted for her husband, Albert, the portrait captured the famously austere Queen as a young, glowing girl with brunette locks tumbling provocatively over naked shoulders. Victoria looked girlish, uncontrolled and, dare i say it, sexy. The portrait, so rare and so remarkable, for me, illustrated the importance of seeing history in all its dimensions, understanding that genuine loves, lives, dramas and crises have gone before us. And this is what The Enchanted Palace, held in the State Apartments of Kensington Palace, aim to do. Examining the personal lives, intimate passions and secret scandals of the seven princesses who have lived in the Palace, a theme is attributed to each woman, and a space is built around it. Visitors are therefore set the challenge of deciphering which room signifies which princess, on the way discovering the inner thoughts and personalities behind the names in the history books.

Helping to bring these seven women to life are a fantastic line up of artists and high profile designers, including our own William Tempest, who joins Stephen Jones, Vivienne Westwood, Echo Morgan and many more. Tempest takes part in ‘The Room of the Sleeping Princess’. Set in the young Victoria’s bedroom, where she slept the night she became Queen, Tempest has created a ‘Dress of Freedom’, encompassing a spectacular flock of origami birds, which spill out from the bodice and envelop the gown, appearing to lift it off the ground. Representing Victoria’s desire for independence, William explains, ‘It is well known that Victoria felt restricted and isolated in the Palace. The installation is created from one thousand origami birds which, in ancient Japanese legend, will grant the holder of the birds any wish. Here the birds are swarming together to help free Victoria and grant her dream of freedom.’

Another room, ‘The Royal Room of Sorrows’, is stunning, with a dress by Aminaka Wilmont, fittingly entitled ‘The Dress of Tears’, suspended high above a typical period bed, with two vast wings of blue dappled chiffon stretching out across the room in a dreamy canopy. Another highlight is the breathtaking, ‘Room of the Dancing Princesses’, having been transformed into a misty, shadowy forest, with silver birch trees, howling animals and whistling winds. Amongst the trees sit two glass cabinets, the first with a soft, taupe dress and blood red ballet shoes, primed and stood on point, as if the invisible princess has been frozen, mid dance. The other encases a stunning, ghostly white lace gown, surrounded by single white feathers, hanging silently, and somewhat hauntingly, in the air.

Yet more and more beautiful, thought provoking spaces appear as the visitor plunges further into the dimly lit, labyrinth-like set of rooms, each brimming with messages, words, sounds and imagery so poignant and so real, that it is at times overwhelming. Frustratingly perplexing, frighteningly human, and deeply moving, it is easy to forget you are wondering through a Royal Palace at all, so far removed it is from the fusty tours, stale antiques and faded oil paintings of trussed up, pallid figures in all their finery.

Sexing up history for the masses, (actors dressed as odd, Back to the Future-style ‘spirits’ stalk purposefully about the space) this exhibit serves as a pioneering step forward for such a traditional institution. However, with change comes the undoubted ruffling of feathers and (much to my amusement) more old school members of the public will clearly need time to adjust. Mutterings of, ‘Oh, it’s far too dark in here, I wish they’d open the drapes, you can’t see the view!’ were followed by staff, cringingly reassuring visitors, ‘It’s very modern, but everything’s based on historical fact, really it is’, felt a touch embarrassing to witness. This exhibit will need to stand the test of time before convincing the older set that moving forward, and drawing in a younger crowd, is the only way to survive.

Terribly juicy, terribly indulgent, and terribly un-British, this is one Palace that’s had a right royal boot up the backside into the 21st century. Polished, insightful and visually stunning, this installation is setting a precedent so high, that others are sure to follow.

The lovely people down at Radio One have made a brilliant, behind-the-scenes video of all the hair, make-up and styling prep before a Vauxhall Fashion Scout show.  With some great interviews and gorgeous shots, the video gives a real snapshot into the hustle, bustle, and utter mayhem that goes on backstage!

An the Oscar goes to... Vauxhall Fashion Scout Film Club! Do you have a fashion film to show at London Fashion Week?

Here at The Fashion Scout we love fashion film. The way it encapsulates a designer’s collection in a more conceptual way. Music and the pace of the video set the tone, and being able to see garments moving on a model really captures our imaginations.

Now you can keep us (and the rest of the world) occupied, if only for a few minutes, by producing more fashion films. Vauxhall Fashion Scout is proud to be presenting The Fashion Film Club during London Fashion Week. Designers can submit fashion films to be shown at the film event.

Spotlight on the Ones to Watch: Eudon Choi

All big hair and red lipstick set against a vibrant urban backdrop. This beautiful photo shoot showcases Ones to Watch designer and rising star Eudon Choi's SS10 collection. Asymmetric paneled dresses mixed with soft, elegant silk tie ribbons.

Eudon Choi studied menswear at RCA before finally turning his talents to womenswear. Not only was his graduate collection stocked at Dover Street Market he went to design at All Saints and Twenty8 Twelve before starting his new label.

His incredible knowledge of pattern cutting as well as the female form is showcased through detailed construction. His figure-hugging, sensuous designs with a high fashion edge have already attracted Sienna Miller and Jade Jagger as fans.

The collection was inspired by Joan Crawford in Mommie Dearest, watch the trailer below and you will see the muted hues and power shoulder.

BODYAMR SS10 Film

Fashion Scout has an incredible schedule this season and there are so many designers I am already a fan of. London based fashion designer Amr Ali is one of those, he set up the BODYAMR label whilst studying and is now well known for his feminine designs in vibrant colours.

At the end of last year BODYAMR produced a beautiful fashion film to showcase their SS10 collection, premiering it at Somerset House. Sunlight bursting over barren landscape and flashing lights in a bustling city, the gorgeous backdrop is set against eerie music.

Fashion photographer Emma Summerton who stars in the film also shot and directed the video with Tony Notarberardino. Summerton’s gorgeous red lips and long windswept hair look stunning styled with the fluid, silhouette-enhancing collection. I hope there’s another collaboration this season, I don’t know about you but I want to see more.
