Harriet's Muse

The presentation room was heaving at Harriet’s Muse, with half the room transformed into a photo shoot, kitted out with studio lights, plenty of photographers and a glamorous gold backdrop.  As the dapper DJ began spinning the decks, a model strutted out in time to the beat, preening and posing in front of the eager camera lens.  After a few seconds, the model disappeared and another punk-haired honey stalked out.  The models, one being Sophie Anderton, were made up in gothic, smouldering, smoky tones, with back combed, frizzed up hair adding to the rock chick vibe.  Black, charcoal and teal were the dominant colours, with leathers, silks and wet look textures accompanying the angular, pin-tucked, precise tailoring.  Extra pointed shoulders and exaggerated hips featured heavily, as did careful stitching in the form of quilted details along lapels, hems and cuffs.

The star of the show was an incredibly chic, heavy wool coat in charcoal grey.  Cinched in with a skinny patent belt, and embellished with quilted lapels and sharp, angular lines, the look was stylish and chic.   A film noir-style satin, bias cut evening gown in the same teal colour also made its mark in the collection.  True to form, corsets with laced up backs and full, handkerchief hem skirts featured, in the signature Harriet’s Muse gothic style, and plunging necklines, bare shoulders and wide, leather, waist-defining belts were a running theme throughout.

Harriet’s Muse gave us the gothic, moody look we know and love, but injected a high dose of sophistication to the mix.  Quirky, sexy, and wearable.
