David Koma NEWGEN Catwalk Report

Bubbling with pride, the Fashion Scout team popped over to Sommerset House in support of our previous Merit Award winner David Koma. Having shown with Fashion Scout for just two seasons, David's profile quickly sky rocketed as he went on to win NEWGEN and the oportunity to show on-schedule during London Fashion Week for S/S 11.

Voluminous a-line shapes complimented strategic geometric paneling in a collection that was at once flirtatious and sophisticated. Koma's signature elements of structure were softened by cut-away sections revealing flesh or replaced by cloudy sheers. Skirt length remained simple with the collection floating between the flouncy thigh skimming Dior-esque and pillar-like floor length.

Cubist disciplines are evident in David's comopsition, with blocks of black leather and python peplums that crowned the hips. Other colours included hues of cream, slight pink and a zesty lemon.

As Koma's launch into London Fashion Week started at Vauxhall Fashion Scout, I took the opportunity to speak with director John Walford after the show, he shares his enthusiasm about David's success:
"Really beautiful to see Koma on the large stage, since winning the Merit Award he has gone from strength to strength. I think his clothes have grown up to it accordingly and he presented an absolutely exquisite collection this season"

Similarly I caught up with Fashion Scout director Martyn Roberts who considered the designer's NEWGEN debut to be a "stunning collection that was a great step forward for David". As well as complimenting the designer for his professionalism and immaculate quality Martyn commented;

"I saw the collection in two halves, the first really focusing on new ideas, shapes and silhouettes, whilst the second half was a nod to David's core look, which I love!".

As we cosied up to David after the show the designer appeared delighted if not charmingly (but needlessly) nervous. We wish Koma all the best as his fashion career continues to grown and could not be more proud to have played a role in supporting David in his rise to the top.
