Last (but certainly not least) to present as part of the Fashion Mode showcase last night was Carlotta Actis Barone. This season the Italian born designer continues to focus on ethical issues which are effectively represented through her designs: For AW11 Carlotta spreads awareness of extreme cruelty to animals and the unfair slaughtering of seals. The colour palette represents these animals through a striking use of icy white, deep blue and slate grey whilst highlights of blood red were seen on linings and tulle netted underskirts representing the violence inflicted on these marine mammals. Fur (faux of course) was also incorporated onto garments forming wide collars and cuffs attached to leather jackets and corseted dresses. Similar to her SS ‘11 collection, Carlotta also included digitally printed text onto nude sheer leggings and bodycon tops, displaying political messages that read ‘100 % Human Skin’ and ‘Live by nature, live in balance’. Socially aware fashion from Fashion Mode created a great finale to day 3.
