COLLECTION| Carlotta Actis Barone FEB'13

A firm favourite on the Fashion Week schedule, Italian-born Carlotta Actis Barone has returned to Fashion Scout with another stand-out collection; bringing the frivolity of “Jazz Age” glamour to the runway. Needless to say, the Central St Martins graduate once again captivated spectators with her innate sense of style and creativity.

In an exclusively monochrome palette, Carlotta’s girls sashayed down the catwalk in figure-hugging creations that combined the classic sophistication of silk, with the sensuality of sheer chiffon.  Flatteringly contoured to the body, each piece exuded a feeling of old-world glamour, which was brought into the contemporary age with statement pleating, tasteful cut-aways, and raised hemlines.

While the emphasis was entirely feminine, this was not a woman to be trifled with.  Each piece instils the wearer with a Jessica Rabbit-like self-confidence; a prominent theme in every aspect of the show, from the playful soundtrack of swing music to the soaring stiletto heels.  It is safe to say that once again, Carlotta Actis Barone has succeeded in producing a stand-out show.

BACKSTAGE| Carlotta Actis Barone FEB'13

Toni & Guy hair and The Body Shop make-up teams are hard at work backstage in preparation for Italian born and raised Carlotta Actis Barone's AW13 show, which will be on the catwalk at 15:30. "For Carlotta, it's working with a central parting with quite a flat finger wave, wet texture through the front,” said Maria Galati, head of hair for Toni & Guy.

With the clothes expected to be elegant with work in black and white, the backstage looks have been worked around the garments in order to “emphasise the glamour”.

Be sure to check back on the Fashion Scout blog for a full catwalk review after the show.

COLLECTION| Carlotta Actis Barone S/S13

Carlotta Actis Barone SS13 Catwalk Show from VAUXHALL FASHION SCOUT on Vimeo.

Ballerinas paraded across the catwalk, opening the show in neon marble prints, and musical-note print-jumpsuits. Hair and make-up held a strong presence throughout the show, with models projecting bright orange wigs and porcelain doll makeup.
Inspired by Mozart's "The Magic Flute", Italian born Carlotta's theme shines throughout each piece, with gowns representing the costumes worn by Papageno and Papagena in the famed-opera.
Although dealing with a concept fundamentally negative, Carlotta injected vibrancy into a less-so theme, with neon bright caged-dresses; their detail emphasising the feminine form.

A light-hearted take on a theme that could have been taken very seriously- with all the brightness, and caged tight body-hugging pieces, Carlotta concentrated on captivating the audience with more of a stage show presence than catwalk. A collection that won’t be forgotten in a hurry as every detail was taken into consideration; the hair and make-up complimenting each look. Light cottons and silks were the two main fabrics used within Carlottas collection, cage shapes were seen in structured hips, structured jackets and rounded skirts. ‘Liberating Cages’ expressing freedom and the need to escape whilst also highlighting protection. The brightest collection seen so far with prints that captured the essence of the theme beautifully, Carlotta presented us with something quite special.

NEWS| Autumn/ Winter Carlotta Actis Barone in August issue of i-D

Always one to address socio-political issues past, and present, pieces from Carlotta Actis Barone's Autumn/Winter collection dedicated to the memory of Holocaust victims have been featured in the August 'Just Kids' issue of i-D.
One of the stark, barbed-wire print bodysuits that intermittently punctuated the designer's most recent collection has been featured in an editorial inspired by the 70s psychedlia of the drug-fuelled antics of a previous generation's youth.
For the remaining editorial shots, be sure to pick up the issue on newstands before September issues hit shelves. Also check out our review, and show images here for more details from Carlotta's A/W'12 collection.
