NEWS| Success of the David Longshaw for Matches collaboration

There’s something in the air in the world of designer collaborations. Over the next month or so you won’t be able to move on a central London street without the jab of an elbow here and there from people queuing for the next big designer team up. One that has been receiving critical acclaim is between illustrative marvel and designer David Longshaw and luxury retailer Matches Fashion. With British Vogue, Bazaar UK and LOVE Magazine amongst the UK publications that covered the collaboration as well as a vast social media buzz - this collaboration is one of the most talked about this season.

Launched alongside the most recent London Fashion Week and Longshaw’s own collection, you can follow the adventures of Maude the modern mouse across a silk scarf as she takes on Fashion Week in style. In an exclusive interview with Matches Fashion, Longshaw describes Maude as “a cross between a mouse and a model” and “the most arrogant and egotistical fashion creation.” What’s not to love?

The three window designs for the Matches stores which bring Maude to life in the key pieces from the latest collections are modelled on the infamous Maudezine. Longshaw was named one of our Ones to Watch at Fashion Scout and with good reason; looking at his latest SS14 offering of sky blue and white adorned with print in distinct shapes, Longshaw - and Maude of course - are definitely going places.

PARIS PREVIEW| Paris Designer David Longshaw

Ahead of David Longshaw heading to Paris to showcase his A/W13 collection with us once again as part of our Fashion Scout Paris showroom, we caught up with David to see what he is looking forward to most about this experience.

What you are most looking forward to about Fashion Scout Paris?

Catching up face to face with the buyers from the stores I sell to and showing them my new collection. Catching up with the other designers and team Fashion Scout..... and of course the cakes... I LOVE Paris patisserie's- so I'm sure Kirsty Ward and I will be thoroughly investigating and analysing those together.

What you think are the advantages of showcasing your designs in Paris?
London is perhaps more exciting in terms of in terms of meeting all sorts of different people in the industry- but it is Paris where the orders are made. For me personally not all the stores I sell to come to London for fashion week- so if I didn't exhibit in Paris I would miss out on those sales.

We normally ask our designers what inspires their latest collection but David has gone one step further and has showed us the short animation which he created as his collection's inspiration. Click here to view "Painting Over Harry".

NEWS| David Longshaw's LFW Triumph Exhibition

Former Ones to Watch designer and Paris Showroom designer David Longshaw presented a multi-media installation for Triumph during London Fashion Week.

Triumph, who are returning for the second season as London Fashion Week's ‘Official Catwalk Lingerie Supplier’, are celebrating the success of 127 years of the label through a pop up at ‘Maison Triumph’, on Covent Garden.

"It's been really interesting because Triumph are one of the main sponsors for fashion week," Longshaw said to Fashion Scout. "The exhibition is all about makers, they have all customised something or made something specially for Triumph. With my idea it was more about making, I made a human sized version of Maude from Triumph products for the exhibition."

NEWS| Eugene Lin and David Longshaw on Vogue's FW Previews

Fashion Scout's Eugene Lin and David Longshaw have both made an appearance on Vogue's Fashion Week Previews.

Eugene Lin, a Central Saint Martins graduate, talks of his A/W13 collection 'Cupid De Locke' as a sequel to his S/S13 collection 'The Judgement of Paris'. "The collection is a modern interpretation and contrasts between the involuntary violence and fragility of love," the designer says. "It is darker, slicker and sharper".

Former One to Watch winner and fellow CSM graduate David Longshaw introduces his A/W13 collection 'Painting Over Harry' with a narrative and in doing so, mentions the "glamorous days of black and white films," and "the Seventies wedding of Princess Anne".

With the countdown to the Fashion Scout London schedule well under way, we eagerly anticipate seeing what both designers have to offer.

NEWS| David Longshaw for Triumph Lingerie

Former Ones to Watch designer and Fashion Scout exhibitionist-regular David Longshaw is producing a multi-media installation for Triumph during London Fashion Week.

Triumph, who are returning for the second season as London Fashion Week's ‘Official Catwalk Lingerie Supplier’, are celebrating the success of 127 years of the label through a pop up at ‘Maison Triumph’, on Covent Garden. The pop up - and David Longshaw's installation will be open to the public from the 15th - 19th February.

We caught up with David to find out how he was scouted for this project:
"Triumph contacted me and said they would like me to be involved in the exhibition as they really liked my work. They explained what they were planning and a few ideas they had of what I might want to do for them, having seen my collections and things I had done for magazines/ exhibitions (the vogue Italia comic strip - Francesca & Arthur, my Maude work etc)- but ultimately they wanted to see what ideas I had for the project. "

Focusing around his iconic character Maude - alongside many other integral characters- the full scale art installation will create a truly unique installation.
"The perfect way to celebrate this was to have Maude (Editor-in-Chief of MAUDEZINE and fictional fabric mouse) involved somehow" David elaborated, "The installation will be entitled 'Maude the Maker' and it involves a human size fabric Maude, bras, a vintage sewing machine and some of the MAUDEZINE team (in their original size 22cm and smaller) and a whole load of drawings."

Follow David on Twitter for exclusive images of the creation of the installation.

NEWS| David Longshaw's Arthur and Francesca meet Helen Van Rees's climbing wall...

David Longshaw has well and truly brought a touch of humour to Vogue Italia with his latest comic strip. Including the work of our One to Watch Hellen Van Rees, the illustration plays on the statement and geometric work of the Central Saint Martin's graduate. Having displayed her S/S13 collection on the catwalk at our Freemason's Hall to positive reviews during London Fashion Week, the designer's garments have been described as many things. Here though, Arthur chooses “a terribly stylish climbing wall” as a fitting description.

Having made a name for his illustrations already, Longshaw is the creator of the Maude character and is a previous VFS Ones to Watch winner.

His latest comic strip can be viewed above or on Vogue Italia's website.

POSCARD FROM PARIS|| David Longshaw

Former Ones to Watch designer David Longshaw's character inspired collections have earned him a wealth of acclaim and recognition since launching his solo label in 2010. We were ecstatic to welcome David to our Paris Showrooms in order to display his S/S13 collection - a line inspired by a short motion animation 'Eva & Doug Go on Holiday'.

We catch up with David Longshaw (and Eva & Doug) in the VFS Paris Showroom to discuss his wildly imaginative and edgily vibrant Spring/Summer 2013 collection:

What has the initial response been to your S/S13 collection?
Good. people have been enjoying the prints and silhouette with the animation.

Is there a favourite piece/ look from the collection that you feel encapsulates your aesthetic?
That changes daily. I think probably the first two looks sum up the collection with the combination of drape, print and silhouette.

What is the importance of showcasing your collection in Paris?
Not all buyers can make it to LFW because of store commitments etc - so Paris is an opportunity to meet them.

As a platform, what support has VFS provided you with this season that you are most grateful for?
It is a great showcase for emerging talent. There is not really another showroom like this in Paris.

What will you be doing in Paris outside of the VFS showroom- making the most of the surrounding city, or taking much deserved respite from the pace of recent weeks?
Catching up with friends and visiting some of the other showrooms. I went to the Petit Palais the other day which was really interesting.

David Longshaw's SS13 collection will be available to view in the Vauxhall Fashion Scout Paris Showroom untill 2nd October 2012.

David Longshaw has sent the VFS blog team this exclusive Olympic inspired drawing of Maude (and her pet Pertinence waving a team GB/team Maude flag). Maude is dressed in a David Longshaw AW12 dress, with a gold medal (9Maude style) and of course, carrying the Olympic flame. What better way to embrace the Olympic fever than with an on trend David Longshaw dress?!
