PARIS SHOWROOMS| Heohwan Simulation SS14

The Korean born Hwan Heo graduated from Royal College of Arts in 2010. Fashion Scout awarded Heohwan Simulation with the Merit award in 2012 and since then he has been recognised for his confidence and attention to detail by press, buyers and fashion fans.

Watching him at this seasons LFW Fashion Scout show; we saw oversized, layer printed images and interesting silhouettes. Clean aesthetics and interesting narratives can always be expected from Heohwan Simulation.

Hwan Heo has stated that the aptly titled ‘Hyper Hyper’ is his “best collection yet”. Let’s see if those attending Paris Showrooms agree.

FRONT ROW| Rebekah Roy at Heohwan Simulation SS14

We caught up with stylist and Fashion Scout selection panel member Rebekah Roy at the first show of Fashion Scout SS14, former Merit Award winner Heohwan Simulation.

Yes I did- it was brilliant. The colour palette was beautiful with the yellows and the blues. There were lots of classic shapes to be seen and the patterns were also a highlight. I love Heohwan, I actually own several of his pieces!

COLLECTION| Heohwan Simulation SS14

Breaking the ice at Fashion Scout for Spring Summer 2014 was Heohwan Simulation.

Now into the fifth season of his twenty strong Critique Collection Project, Korean born RCA Menswear graduate Hwan Heo has returned to Fashion Scout for the fourth time to debut SS14. This morning the Ones To Watch and Merit Award veteran showcased his womenswear collection; expertly styled by Natasha Wray. Inspired by the double exposure photography of Thomas Ruff and The Making of English Working Class, a text by E.P Thompson; the impressive selection was well received by the wide eyed onlookers.

Aptly titled 'Hyper Hyper', the show kicked off to the sound of Medium Love by Apparatique with a line up of long line soft tailored jackets layered over printed, chevron embellished full circle skirts. A palette of canary, neon yellows sharply sliced jet black asymmetric leathers. Vamp slash back pencil skirts contrasted ombre, linear stand out exaggerated ruffle dresses that contoured the form in a flattering, feminine manner. A collection of contrasts; flowing floral patterns were focused on sleek day dresses. Boxy jackets complemented laser cut leather detailing while subtle bell sleeves and 50s tailoring made for highly versatile, highly wearable designs.

“This time I got inspiration from the mixture of the 50s and the 80s. I'm very satisfied with this collection, I think it's my best collection yet” - Hwan Heo on SS14.

NEWS| Fashion Scout designers Shao Yen and Heohwan Simulation in Tank Magazine

This week has seen Tank magazine highlight two Fashion Scout designers in their ‘Power Four’ of emerging international designers article; more specifically, Shao Yen and Heohwan Simulation.

Disclosing that Shao Yen never planned to become a knitwear designer, the article explains how Shao initially directed his talent toward jewellery design; before taking a place on the Central St Martin knitwear programme –  a movement which proved a vehicle for experimentation. The article goes on to discuss Shao’s brand aesthetic of experimental spirit, which is accessible to many people; his most recent collection inspired by Catalan artist Joan Miro and Giuseppe Castiglione’s portraits of the Chinese Emperor Qianlong, mirrors this, combining wearable clothing and eccentricity.

Alongside Shao, RCA graduate and Fashion Scout Merit Award and ‘One’s to Watch’ designer, Heohwan Simulation, is also deemed an emerging designer destined for big things. The article places emphasis on Hwan Heo’s determination, the philosophical and concept based aesthetic of his brand; and his “The decade Project”, a ten year concept he is undertaking inspired by his reading of fashion’s history.

Both Fashion Scout designers are featured alongside British, Danish Duo Trager Delaney and London launched label Ostwald Helgason.

EXHIBITION| Heohwan Simulation FEB'13

Former One to Watch and Merit Award winner Heohwan Siimulation is a Korean born, London based designer exhibiting his AW13 collection in the Freemasons Hall.

Having showcased his collection on the catwalk on Monday 18th February to a positive reception, his AW13 collection is inspired by the 1969 French social turbulence and lives up to the artistic aesthetic he seems to so effortlessly create through his work.

The architectural collection is the next stage in completion of the designer's 20 season Decade Project.

SPONSOR| TONI&GUY; Effortless Ponytail's at Heohwan Simulation

Yesterday saw last season's Merit Award Winner Heohwan Simulation take to the catwalk once again to showcase his hotly anticipated collection for A/W13. TONI&GUY were on hand once again- the backstage teams worked with the designer to create a bespoke look for the catwalk, and for this show- less was definitely more.

With a low ponytail at the curve of the neck, the hair was effortless-chic with lose tendrils gently shaping the face, giving a fresh, simplistic look to a beautifully crafted collection. The slight-off centre parting made the look seem almost 'girl-next-door' with it's ease and carefree aesthetic.

A prominent trend on the catwalk, we look forward to seeing more from TONI&GUY and a new look for A/W13.

INTERVIEW| Heohwan Simulation

Heohwan Simulation's collection 'Editorials in '68' showed to an enamoured audience. Fashion Scout caught up with him after the show to find out about his influences and progression.

How have you progressed since 'Ones to Watch' and winning the Merit award last season?
Ones to Watch was my first step, I'm really happy to be moving forward since then and to be showing my fourth collection. It is the fourth in my Critique Collection and I hope to make it all the way to my 16th.

Is there a continuous narrative throughout your critique collection?
Yes, it is my collective viewpoint of fashion in film noir and fashion history. I am always influenced by the 19th and 20th century in fashion, the progressive development of fashion and eventually film.

What was your inspiration behind this collection?
I was inspired by the political and fashion movements of 1968. I put together images from fashion magazines of that year as well as social movement and integrated the two. This inspired my creative process, painting on silk and envisioning the bigger picture. I am not good at colour, I started with black, white and grey and used print to integrate some colour.

What do you think of the opportunities Fashion Scout has provided not only you but international designers as a whole?
It is a very good opportunity to get the chance to be on a catwalk or in a show room that you may not otherwise get. I am so happy with the opportunities that Fashion Scout have given me.

FRONT ROW| Heohwan Simulation FEB'13

Former Merit Award winner Heohwan Simulation showcased his AW13 collection on the catwalk at our Freemason's Hall. MTV presenter Laura Whitmore and stylist, writer and tipped to be fashion's next big thing Angela Scanlon spoke from the front row on the designer.

Laura Whitmore
I am a huge fan of the Heohwan Simulation brand, I’m wearing one of his jackets today! I love the fact that his clothes are edgy enough to be different, but wearable enough for every day life. I thoroughly enjoyed the show.
Angela Scanlon
I am wearing a Heohwan Simulation dress today; I love the talent he showcases through his work. For such a new designer he demonstrates such maturity in his work. His pieces offer great shapes and most importantly they are wearable.

COLLECTION| Heohwan Simulation FEB'13

In yet another impressive collection from Heohwan Simulation, Korean born, London based designer Hwan Heoh most certainly delivered. Inspired by the fashion scene and social turbulence of France in 1969, the collection was in anything but disarray. Pieces featured fur detailing, rich textures and metallic embellishments in a contemporary presentation of garments that stuck firmly to the artistic, experimental aesthetic he's become known for.

As the music continued, a colour palette of blacks, greys and blues only helped the collection delve further into the designer's take on contrasts. A former One to Watch and Merit Award Winner, the line is currently in its fourth season of The Critique Collection Project, which will comprise to become a part of the designer's planned 20 season Decade Project. A focus on linear panelling, statement zips and unique silhouetting all appeared in the structured and effortlessly stylised catwalk showcase of beautifully architectural womenswear designs.
