Internationally renown journalist, former Fashion Director of the Telegraph, and Graduate Fashion Week trustee, Hilary Alexander came to show support for the stars of fashion's future, and become familiar with their works up-close. Vauxhall Fashion Scout spoke with Alexander regarding the young graduates to find out more about the selection process, and who stood out for her this season.
Any that stand out for you?
I like Serena Gili, it's a different form of construction and it's using new materials and I love Shengwei Wang. I like anything that's got craft. It's mixing ribbon and plastic and sequins, it's really beautiful work. Absolutely gorgeous.
You've been impressed by the talent then?
Oh yes, I thought we had a really strong GFW. Altogether it showcased the work of about 1500 graduate students. That and we had an incredible line up of judges including Daphne Guinness and Matthew Williamson.
You must really enjoy following the designers?
I love it. I've followed it from the very beginning and that's 21 years ago. The very first one was at the Design Centre, Islington. I mean a lot of people have come through. Chris Bailey who's of course at Burberry now showed at GFW 20 years ago with Westminster. If you go back through the years, a lot of talent has come through.
