This
season Freemasons Hall saw the return of Chinese designer, Ji Cheng. Her AW13 Collection ‘Koi’s Whisper’ takes
inspiration from the Asian koi carp who’s movements are said to
resonate beauty, calm and elegance in classic Asian folk tales.
The
collection showcases a combination of multi-faceted textured layers
and juxtapositioned fabrics; demonstrated through pieces which
include an oriental inspired kimono-esq twin set, a flute sleeved
thick wool black coat, a leather collared, silk textured blazer, a
soft wool and fine pleated dress and the piece de resistance - a
strikingly elegant black layered fishtail silk dress. The colour
scheme progressed from black to emerald green, ivory and burgundy
resonate of the carp.
The
ethereal models wore their hair gelled into a twisted braid further
enhancing the aquatic inspiration from which the collection was born.
Overall the designs were distinctive of Cheng’s tailored precision
whilst being most wearable.
