INTERVIEW | The Body Shop's Key Make-up Artist Jo Sugar Chats to Fashion Scout

Former One's To Watch Designer Nova Chiu’s showcase always attracts the crowds, and deservedly too. Her iconic print prints and fantastic manipulation of texture and fabric, her collections always cause a stir.
Accompanying these amazing collections, is the backstage Body Shop team, creating bespoke looks to compliment Nova's collection. We got talking with key make-up artist Jo Sugar who gives us an insight into the creation of looks for the show and the amazing team of artists and stylists backstage.

What beauty looks have you been creating for Nova Chiu?
It is a Native American inspired look with a real feel of nature. There’s a lot of texture so I wanted to go natural with the colours. It’s still very extreme however, so it’s about contrasting nature with industrialism and that’s shown in the heavy contouring.

How do you work the beauty looks with the designer’s collection?
Well, it’s fashion week so it’s all about the clothes. The make- up is driven by the clothes and the hair and beauty looks compliment. The designer comes up with the story that’s very organic and rich and the aim is to get the make up on the same stage as this.

It’s still only day one, but are there any trends that you’re starting to see come through?
It’s all very the same but different in a way, there are a lot of rich browns. It’s all uite muted colours but then there are also metallics and organic shades.

What is it like working backstage at Fashion Scout as a team?
I love that Fashion Scout is very supportive with the designers that they have. They bring together these sponsors that make it easier for everyone to get work done.
