It's a striking contrast of youthful
femininity and the depravation and harshness of war that sets the
scene for Ming Pin Tien's AW13 collection. Entitled, 'Bye Bye Youth',
the former One to Watch winner and Taiwanese designer created designs
of the upmost style and simplicity that lived up to the contrasts the
collection promised. Be it the suede with leather, light with dark or wearability with innovation, distinct differentiations were rife.
Inspired by the films 'Flowers of War'
and “Nanking! Nanking!”, the pastel colour palette and
accompanying soundtrack created a clean and minimal vibe that spoke
of enduring memory and innocence. A graduate of the London College of
Fashion with an MA in Fashion Design and Technology Womenswear, his
knowledge of cutting and unique views on fashion were clear with the
introduction of geometric, graphic lines thrown across garments of
over-sized silhouettes, embellished with statement metallics.
A show of contemporary contrast, Min
Pin Tien's AW13 collection, from his Ones to Watch debut to Fashion Scout showcase, is a clear progression.
