BACKSTAGE | Ones To Watch AW14

Ones to Watch is one of the most anticipated shows of Fashion Scout. Introducing up-and-coming designers to the fashion world is a key element of the Fashion Scout ethos and the excitement surrounding the shows is palpable backstage.

With the Fashion Scout Ones to Watch winners George Styler, Carrie-Ann Stein, Hiroko Nakajima and Sarah Ryan backstage as well as hair stylists, makeup artists, models and stylist Rebekah Roy, the place was buzzing with nervous energy. Despite the chaos, we got the chance to speak to some of the people making all of this possible.

Rebekah Roy has been a core member of the Ones to Watch team since its inception 14 years ago. As head stylist, Roy oversees the styling of each of the collections on show.
“Every year is so special! I still remember the first one and I still know all those designers. So many of team are doing so well, it’s interesting to see so many going on to the BFC or off to New York.”

“This season is really incredible. I think we’ve chosen designers who are truly creative and so we know they will go on to do so many different things.” She says.

Head of make-up with The Body Shop, Lan Nguyen Grealiss also gave us a sneak peak and some insight into the catwalk looks and what we can expect to see next season.
“The look is a combined sort of futuristic, modern/street/glamour. To suit all of the designers we have a sort of punch of street glamour with a bold lip, but instead of going for dark and black we’ve gone for purple with a blood red lip.”

Lan assured us that natural faces with neutral eyes and bold lips will be a big hit come Autumn/Winter. In terms of hair, head stylist Silje Diana Vincent of Toni & Guy let us in on the concept she has created for the designers saying, “We’re going to see quite a structured braid. Everything has braids in it. So we have four different designers so we need to do something that everyone likes. We’ve already seen loads of braids coming from New York and also a lot of dual textures from wetter to drier looks.”
