COLLECTION| Min Wu AW14

Chinese born, London based designer Min Wu presented her AW14 ‘Atmosphere and Automation’ collection today as part of Fashion Scout.

The recent graduate, with a strong and unique aesthetic, demonstrated her work during the much acclaimed Fashion Scout Graduate Showcase in September 2013.

Built upon her vision of a white collection with ombre colour pops again this season, Wu uses unconventional fabrics to better convey her concept. Set in the regal Prince Regents Room, the presentation kicked off with a kaleidoscopic projection onto a white backdrop and three enormous helium balloons that floated serenely above the models like clouds. This tied into Wu’s inspiration for the collection which was the skyline as seen from the window of an airplane, above the clouds.

A vibrant palette of rich turquoise, sky blue, tangerine and fuchsia accents melded seamlessly into the cream and white of the garments like flashes of a beautiful sunset through the clouds. Wool, viscose, neoprene and power mesh made for an interesting textural collage. Wu’s designs are inherently futuristic with a ladylike twist. Wool pencil skirts with central splits to the thigh were teamed with laser cut tank and crisp white shirts.

One of the stars of the show and the designer’s favourite piece, was an oversized, cropped bomber jacket fading from blue to white. Evening wear came in the form of a sharp black ankle length gown with a plunging neckline and a modem wide legged jumpsuit in white.
The final piece was a mid length dress in cream with accents of blue through the pleating and Wu’s modern and achitechtural take on the bow at the waist.

Catching up with the designer after the show, Min Wu said she was “so excited to be part of Fashion Scout,” noting the importance of the platform for young designers.
