Hema Kaul transported her audience back to the 1950s this evening at FashionScout in a spectacular show of vintage glamour. In hommage to an era of transience which encouraged women to step out of their domestic roles and into the limelight, glamour, freedom and the female form were celebrated through Kaul’s modernised aesthetic.
Floorlength gowns enchanted
with scintillating embroidery and Indian embellishments. Kaul’s signature lace
detailing prevailed throughout which characterised much of the collection’s
feminine mystique. Traditional 50s silhouettes were a firm fixture, pinnaclising
a period which encouraged women to embrace their figures. Peplums, fitted two piece suits and full
skirts emphasised the strong vintage influence. Redolent of 50s workwear, the
jumpsuits introduced a fresh androgynous spin without compromising femininity. Unafraid
to seize the spotlight with her designs, Kaul’s collection set an effervescent
tone for AW 14.
