BACKSTAGE| Apu Jan FEB'13

Fashion Scout headed backstage ahead of Apu Jan's Autumn/Winter 2013 showcase to look behind the scenes of the Body Shop, and Toni & Guy's creative process. The Royal College of Art graduate, known for his combination of history and fantasy in his collections takes inspiration from how 'oil progresses through time', it's emergence in the sea, and how we use it today. The colours are indicative of this process, with the designer working with a dark palette of mostly blacks, greys and blues.

Conversely, the Body Shop's look for the show was pigmented, allowing for a stark contrast. The result is a youthful, contemporary look referencing the designer's oriental background. Yaelana, first assistant of Claire DeGrath explained the colour selection, namely fuschia and topez as representative of Eastern sunrise. For the skin, a matte oil foundation was used for a flawless finish; the look brightened with a fuschia lipstick, and shimmer block around the eyes.

For the hair, head stylist from Toni & Guy, Tim Furssedonn explained it was 'twisted in a ball like fabric' in keeping with Jan's knitwear style.  To start with, the hair was prepped with mousse and tied back into a tight ponytail on top of the head, later twisted and pinned with pieces of wool to compliment the clothes.
