Taking inspiration from the darkest
depths of the ocean, Fashion Scout has taken a dive straight into its
London schedule with Apu Jan's AW13 collection. A graduate of MA
Fashion Womenswear from the Royal College of Art, his London-based
education combined with his oriental interpretation of modern design
has most certainly prepared him well. Aptly named 'Petroleum', the
Taiwanese designer's new collection offered up an amalgamation of
interesting knitwear that stayed true to his unique aesthetic.
Referencing primeval oceanic organisms, oversized knit pieces were
paired with draped fabrics where flashes of colour from belts and
headpieces and the appearance of geometric design only added to the
atmosphere. A colour palette of charcoal greys, and heavy blacks
spoke of the destruction of natural fossil fuels whilst the
imaginative, fluid approach to silhouette echoed that oceanic feel he
seemed to capture so well.
