COLLECTION| Ones-To-Watch: Yulia Kondranina FEB'13

Making her debut on the Fashion Scout runway was Russian-born designer, Yulia Kondranina.  Since graduating last year with an MA in Womenswear from the prestigious Central St Martins, Kondranina has collated an impressive media following; her appearance in the Ones-To-Watch show, was hotly anticipated by all.

Despite the obvious references to her graduate work, this collection has signified a progression for Kondranina as a designer. Once again, full-length viscose-fringing was prevalent throughout the collection; from subtle-elements such as shoulder detailing, to fully-fringed gowns.  Juxtaposing the softness of this fringing with a strong, boned structure through her use of exposed weaves, Kondranina was able to create both movement and fluidity in her  designs.

This idea of Kondranina’s progression translated in a very literal sense within the show itself; beginning in a solely monochrome palette, the final pieces introduced bold primary colours, climaxing in a full-length red gown/trouser combination.

As a whole, the collection was an intelligent example of the intersection between fashion, art, and sculpture; deeming Kondranina truly worthy of being a “Ones-To-Watch” winner.
