Backstage at Basharatyan V, the busy hair and make-up team
work with quiet confidence. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed yet productive-
the make-up team led by Jo Sugar and the hair team led by Dave Noble. Fashion
Scout caught up with them both and here’s what they had to say about the looks
they had created.
The inspiration behind the look is Frida Kahlo- a Mexican
surrealist painter best known for self-portraits, influenced by indigenous
Mexican culture which is apparent in her use of bright colours, dramatic
symbolism and primitive style.
Head Make-up Artist Jo Sugar comments: ‘The makeup is
inspired by Frida herself, notably the strong brow.’ Brows are dark and thick-
the mantra seemed to be the heavier, the better. To achieve the look, brow gel
was used first then filled in with carbon brown eye definer and brow kits.
Skin looked flawless and fresh- the Vitamin E range was used
to hydrate and soften skin and Radiant Highlighter was smoothed on for a luminous
glow. Eyes were kept natural- nude eyeliner was worn on the inside rims and
sandy/pearly white shadows were blended together for a pretty, neutral finish.
Lips co-ordinated with the rest of the look and kept
natural-looking. The lipstick of choice was Colour Crush in the Dare to Bare
shade which gave a stunning pop of nude rose colour.
Meanwhile, Dave Noble explains that the hair trend was a
‘hybrid of a 1960’s cut with a 1920’s style.’ Hair was pinned into intricate
curls all over the head and secured with a needle and thread. When asked what
products Dave had used to keep this elaborate hairstyle in place, he replied:
‘a secret ingredient.’
With all the effort put in backstage, the efforts are sure
to pay off on the catwalk…
