Last season’s Merit award winner proved her worth last season with exceptional reviews from the press. Her effortless style and impeccable tailoring has never gone amiss and there was a lot of pressure on this season as many were anticipating her urbane aesthetic.
The appearance of discontinuous flashing lights accompanied with the funky sound of Trick or Treat by Phon.O created an atmosphere that is synonymous of Yifang Wan’s imperturbable style.
Yifang’s army of models could not have personified the collection more perfectly; cold as ice expressions, black out sunglasses, and minimalistic hairstyles provided the forestalled couldn’t-care-less look.
Yet again there were minor elements of martial art and sculpture within the SS14 collection as it included cinched waists and slits. The more noticeable trend for this collection was asymmetry; almost all skirts and dresses included a lengthy fluid shaped skirt that juxtaposed with a clean-cut miniature edge on the opposing side. Layers made an appearance as a low-key element with pleats and peplums protruding underneath cropped sleeved jackets and shirts.
A palette of muted grey, cream and black allowed Yifang Wan to present her flawless cuts elegantly, and once the show stopping glittering emerald and silver looks came onto the catwalk, it became apparent that this could by Yifang’s best collection yet.
Whilst still evident that Yifang takes influence from Margiela, as a designer Yifang Wan is justly making her own mark.
