COLLECTION| Basharatyan V SS14

She’s been named by Harper’s Bazaar as one of Russia’s best young designers due to her strikingly glamorous, luxurious ready-to-wear collections. Last season she brought ‘Broken Angel’ to us and it was highly admired and respected by press, buyers and members of the industry. It's not just London that's a fan, she has also made a name for herself within Russia’s elite.

This season Basharatyan showcased a collection that was beautiful, elegant and seriously luxe. She used delicate silk chiffons to form halter necks, which created feminine bows that added a playful aspect to the lavish collection. Floating skirts and dresses allowed there to be fluidity and grace on the catwalk- a stunning tribute to the female form. Juxtaposed with these were feminine twists on the man’s suit- created for independent and proud women.

The colour palette is the reason for the collection’s title- ‘Frida’. Inspired by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo’s paintings, the clothes project hints of neon brights, vivid and pastel colours and intriguing prints.

The designer’s signature ‘ribbon knit’ has made an appearance in the form of a clutch bag this season, in popping neon lemon, thus sitting well with a contemporary audience.

Basharatyan’s conceptual creativity was highly appreciated today at Freemasons’ Hall.
