Singapore’s extravagant designer, famous for his use of decadent fabrics, presented a show that is extremely feminine and glamorous. The collection was inspired by the 1967 French Drama Belle du Jour; directly translated as ‘beauty of the day’, this collection illustrated quite how exquisite a woman can be.
Trains, liquid jersey slits, and silk
marocain dresses created fluidity and refinement on the catwalk. This grace was
complimented with cinched waists, broad shoulders and gatherings that bestowed
to us a superb female form.
Jeweled, floral embellishments and lace
garments added a subtly chic element. This luxurious label,
synonymous with class and elegance did not disappoint with a selection of
delicate cobalt blues, jasmines, corals, creams and pink peonys. Transparent
skirts and jackets and the astute use of zips expressed Ashley’s aim to fuse
the avant-garde with his classic signature styles and the adroit House of Flora
hats were the perfect accessory.
Ashley Isham eased us into a futuristic
realm with this SS14 collection and will surely go down well with his army of
devoted followers.
