This afternoon saw the return of Turkish designer Gül Agiş’s label Lug Von Siga to the
catwalk at Freemasons Hall. After making a powerful impact last season, this seasons
eagerly anticipated show started with a statement - resonant tribal music
echoing deep through the crowd.
Inspired by rich Turkish heritage and
culture, along with a multiplicity of Turkish political issues, Gül’s collection aims to arouse and
provoke international interest. The focus of the collection has definitively
tribal origins. Initially starting by working with tribal masks, Gul developed
the unique mask style prints into her garment fabrications, through the use of
appliqué techniques, leather, and sheer silks amongst other futuristic fabrics.
These are then juxtaposed with intricate fabric cutting and futuristic metal
beading techniques to create elegant cut-out dresses, printed bomber jackets
and thigh skimming co-ords.
The final aesthetic was decadent,
luxurious and lavish; the Lug Von Siga woman is nothing but sexy, dignified and
most importantly, fierce. We can only anticipate Gül’s next collection.
