Profile: Andy Bumpus

While enjoying his second season at VFS, the talented Andy Bumpus has just released a new book, stocked at The Shop at Bluebird. This collaboration with Hermione de Paula sees the debut of a delightful collection of notebooks, that are most definitely on the VFS must have list. Describing his work as ‘graphic, hieroglyphic and playful’, he captures things in minimal terms, breaking them down along the way. His sketches are abstract, but what Andy manages to do is skillfully consolidate a catwalk show into a single image.  Alongside illustration Andy keeps himself busy in the worlds of photography and advertisement and sees many of his street style shots featured on Vogue.com.

If you were invisible for the day what would you do?
Have a very good time!!! I’ll leave it at that!

If you could be anyone for the day who would you be?
I would be Neil Armstrong the day he landed on the moon.

If you could have any super power what would you choose?
I was quite convinced by invisibility but then I thought there is that guy from the Watchmen who can do anything. I think I would go with being able to do anything, like the Green Lantern.

If you robbed a bank, what is the first thing you would buy?
I would by a house.

If you were not an illustrator what would you be?
A photographer.
