Profile: Yiunam Leung

Yiunam Leung is a London based fashion illustrator who is currently studying at Middlesex University. As well as the amazing illustrations that he has created for VFS, at the moment he is currently working on a project with Harrods, where he is collaborating with them on their Christmas campaign. Featured on Fashion 156, Rock the Trend and Fashion Capital; Yiunam is now gaining international press attention. The delicacy of his style is attributed to the inspiration he draws from Chinese paintings and the suggestive techniques they use, a finish that encapsulates the simplicity of this art form. He translates what he sees on the catwalk to brush strokes. The face is the most detailed part as he often spends up to four hours working on just one eye. He then builds the garments around the faces in a minimal and evocative manner. Brushstrokes that demonstrate glamour without trying.

As part of the VFS team, we decided to ask Yiunam a few questions to find out a little more about the man behind the pen.

If you were invisible for the day what would you do?
Probably stay at home… can I fly instead?

If you could be anyone for the day who would you be?
David Downton, I want to see what he does and how he works.

If you could have any super power what would you choose?
Ok, I would want to fly. I’d go to Hong Kong

Could you not just get a plane?
This would be more fun.

If you robbed a bank, what is the first thing you would buy?
Another bank and then invest all the money in my bank. I’d be sensible maybe get some properties.

If you were not an illustrator what would you be?
A fashion designer.
